I was very much looking forward to the opening of The Manor, having dined at The Pheasant and The Grosvener, Pulford, on numerous occasions over the years. However, when I looked at The Manor menu, on line, I was hugely disappointed. Consequently, I had no incentive to visit any time soon. Recently, I was persuaded to try lunch at The Manor by some friends who, were keen to try it. So, we made a booking. On arrival, we were greeted by a very pleasant young man who showed us to our table. A waitress brought us menus and hallelujah… a specials menu! There were two items on the special menu but, only one was available. Two of us chose the halibut from that menu. It was a good choice and was served atop crushed new potatoes (a little more potato would have been nice). Another friend chose the Miso Chilli and Lemon Chicken which, was very disappointing. The image on the website shows chicken pieces which look golden and succulent. Sadly, the chicken pieces served today were burnt and crispy with the recipient reporting, when eating, that it was very dry. Flatbread with avocado, chicken and bacon, was another choice. The verdict, topping was very tasty but, rather scarce. When our waitress asked if we had enjoyed our main course we told her all the above in the interest of constructive criticism. The waitress was apologetic about the chicken and said she would let the kitchen know. On to dessert- One lime cheesecake… nicely presented with strawberries and apparently, delicious! Three sticky toffee puddings- disappointing! The individual puddings themselves were dry and not very flavoursome…. The saving grace was the butterscotch sauce which helped to moisten the pudding. They weren’t a patch on the Cartmel sticky toffee pudding or, the sticky toffee pudding served at The Red Fox in Thornton Hough. Service- long wait for main course and extremely long wait for three pots of tea after deserts. While we waited, and watched, it was very apparent to us all that more staff were definitely required- The restaurant and Terrace, were both busy. Our waitress was extremely apologetic about the waiting times and somehow managed to remain pleasant throughout. I’m sure it must have been extremely stressful for her and the other servers, particularly in this hot weather. We were all in agreement that the refurbishment was very nice- comfortable, spacious, and light and airy. The atmosphere was good too. My fellow diners and myself, sincerely hope that when the menu changes it will cater for those with more traditional tastes. I do have a photo of the disappointing Miso Chilli and Lemon Chicken but couldn’t work out how to attach it to the...
Read moreWe visited on opening week last year and Tuesday this week was our first visit since. We arrived on time for our booking of 2 people. We seen the bell upon entry which says "ring for service", which we did. 5 minutes later, a staff member appeared and we were shown to our table. Our table was set for 4 people. The spare cutlery was never removed. The table was wobbly too which was annoying at times. 10 minutes into our visit and a table of 7 walked in. A further 5 minutes later, a staff member took the food and drinks order for the table of 7. We had clearly been forgotten about. A further 10 minutes later, the waiter that shown us to our table came over and asked if we'd been seen to yet. He seemed surprised we hadn't and apologised. He took our order for food and drinks. Menus were left on the table with the spare cutlery, after we had ordered. Our starters came to us after only a 10 minute wait. Unfortunately, still no sign of the drinks. The starters were very good. I had the Manuka Honey Glazed Fig With Burrata On Sourdough Toast. Only little niggle was the sourdough was only toasted on one side, so was a little doughy and not quite crisp enough. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though. The flavours were all there. My partner had the Salmon Roulade which she said was delicious. It certainly looked the part. No waiting staff performed any check backs on our food. Our drinks arrived as the starters were being cleared.
Main courses - I had the Duck. Cooked to perfection, rested to perfection, seasoned to perfection. Well presented and thoroughly enjoyed. Again, only little niggle was the chestnut pieces were very tough. My partner had the Lamb which she said was perfect. Although we were both happy with our mains and had no complaints to make, again, no waiting staff checked to see if we were satisfied. Mains were cleared and we ordered desserts. I had the Christmas Bauble On Ice which I was very impressed with. I never usually have a dessert, but this isn't something you see very often. It looked the part and tasted phenomenal. The sticky toffee was perfect, also. We finished our desserts and drinks and we were still sat there with dirty plates on the table 20 minutes later, so i had to go to the bar and ask if I could pay our bill.
We recall the service being poor on opening week but put it down to being a new business, unfortunately, it hasn't improved.
We will return again for the food, but service needs...
Read moreWent yesterday decided to treat myself to something off the lunch menu as it sounded like a good deal when seated my waitresses asked if I wanted a drink, I asked if they had anything on draft like coke and they said they had Pepsi, I asked if they did coke in a glass bottle she confirmed they did. When brought over it was a 200ml mixer size that you usually get with a spirit, this thrown me abit as generally most places if they don’t have specific soft drink on draught will mostly have a bottle size 330ml, this wound me up before I even ordered as it didn’t even fill half the glass I was given! It also isn’t advertised on their drinks menu they even sell coke so I had no idea what I was gonna be charged for this drink. Then ordering I decided to go for “char Sui pork bao buns” the menu states that all lunch menu items come with a house salad & fries, my meal did not come with a house salad. Again this wound me up and I felt let down, my waitresses did not at any point come to my table to ask if everything was ok with my meal so I had to wait till the end to give feedback, the “char Sui pork bao buns” were NOT char sui unless I’m mistaken, the filling in my buns resembled more pulled pork in a bbq tasting sauce which repeated on me and gave me heart burn. When it came to paying I relayed my feedback to a gentleman with tattoos who was very polite and more attentive than the other waitress, he asked who was my server and I described her so he could find her. I relayed my feedback to herself which she needed to verify with kitchen if lunch meals come with salad (not tryna be picky but how does your staff not know your menu, this is embarrassing.) she returned from the kitchen and informed me that yes I was missing a salad so she will take this portion off my bill, I also mentioned the coke ordeal and told her it really wound me up getting a mixer size, she said that is all they provide in this restaurant, I honestly thought as a gesture of goodwill because of the inconvenience of all this she would’ve just removed the coke from my bill as I was deceived and let down, nope all she said was take a measly £1 from my bill which does NOT equate to the cost of a salad. I will attach a photo of my meal and my receipt for reference and I will state now I will not be returning to this rip off of a restaurant, decide to treat myself and leave feeling let down, ripped off and suffering...
