After myself and a group of friends went out for a long family/dog walk, we had booked to have Sunday lunch in the pub. Upon booking the table, the staff emailing had said that dogs aren’t usually allowed, especially on busy Sundays. They said they would allow us in this time... this was then met by a reply from a friend in the group that reminded the pub that we have eaten there before, and had two dogs with us. So that new information was a lie. Upon arriving, my welcome was cold. I sat at the table were the staff said they would bring over menus. As I was the first of the group to arrive, I didn’t see a menu or get offered a drink order as I waited 10 minutes. After everyone had arrived I then ordered from the two dishes Sunday menu. I ordered fish cake to start, and roast beef for my main. When our food did arrive, I was shocked to find a metal bolt In my fish cake. This was not a small bolt (see photo). I told the staff, and it was taken away straight away. The manager did offer me a free drink and said my food orders would be covered by the pub. The annoying thing is that they seemed to dismiss the seriousness of the situation. If the bolt wasn’t huge in size, myself or someone could have swallowed it, or caused serious damage to their teeth/mouth. Once the main dishes came out, a member of staff seemed to be annoyed that people are ordering food. He pretty much slammed our main dishes down on the table. He also put down a couple of extremely hot plates right next to the 2 year old at the table. Does the guy not have any common sense? I understand it may be a busy Sunday lunch service, but don’t be an idiot. Later a staff member came over to ask how our main dishes were and seemed to joke about that we “didn’t find any hidden extras inside your meals”. I definitely think this is highly unprofessional. Especially after what I had found in my meal. All in all, it was a terrible experience. And a place I wouldn’t want to return to.

We met here for a family birthday, as a midway option for travelling. The pub itself is lovely, very comfortable interior with a nice cosy ambience and feel to the place. Nice grounds too. The staff were all also very good, helpful, polite and friendly. However, we were all very disappointed with our food. Everything was very greasy and a steak which had been ordered rare, was medium to well done. On a good note tho, the waitress whisked it away, without us even asking and brought another cooked rare. The garlic bread starter was probably the best thing we had and the shiraz was pretty good too. Plenty of parking available. We won't be returning to eat though unfortunately.

We visited on a Thursday early afternoon ( 2PM ), fairly busy but not overwhelming. They had no sign saying order at the bar and no numbers on the tables, so we sat down and waited. No one came, I went to get menus. A waiter took the order the table next to us so waited a little longer. Told someone that we would like to order, and the same waiter sent me to the bar to place our order. Then a few min later he went and took the order from the table behind us. The rest of our lunch was fine, the food was great and service was fast.

Absolutely superb food and service! Visited on Father's Day without a booking and was able to get a table. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered fishcakes to start which was delicious and came with a spicy mayo. For mains my husband had the lamb roast and I chose the double cooked pork with crackling. We were very happy with both meals, they tasted great and looked great. We were stuffed at the end of the meal. We will definitely be coming here again as our local. Thank you to the staff who made us feel welcome

The Red Lion is our go-to pub for a good meal and some drinks in a nice setting. We’ve eaten here many times in the last year alone, often bringing family for an occasion dinner, or just the two of us for a date night or Sunday roast. The service is always very good, the bar serves good beers and a great Bloody Mary - however what keeps us coming back is the consistent quality of the food. Only negatives are sometimes it gets a little roudy on a Saturday night, and I wish it was a little more dog friendly.
