I went to brunch with my husband and 10-week-old baby. We contacted Ghales ahead of time to see if we could reserve a table and to specify that we needed one with an additional area to accommodate the pram.
We were told we didn't need to book and could just walk in because it was quiet. When we got in to Ghales , I noted that there were tables in the centre accessible. There was additional space near the entrance and in the back, closer to the toilet. I mentioned to a member of staff again that we needed something with more space for the pram when we arrived. They said we could sit where there was no reserved sign or an empty table. Another family sat at the table near the entryway so if we had sat there, the family would have been unable to go away from their table because the side would be used for our pram. We opted not to sit down as they has a small child too.
I then went to the middle and located a table, but I moved it slightly away from the one next to it so we could put the pram there comfortably (I should mention that I have before visited Ghales before and seen a family sitting there with a pram). Despite the fact that we had been assured we could seat anywhere without a reserved sign and where empty , a member of staff informed me that I was not permitted to move the table (in quite a rude manner must I add).
I was not in a position to move the table, but I'm puzzled how a pram could fit between the tables, without moving them slightly. The staff member told me I could take a seat on the table near the toilet. I informed her that there was no room between the tables for the pram there either and putting the pram behind the table would hinder customers accessing the toilet. The staff member then started to move the table and claimed the pram would now fit.
My previous visits to Ghales have been positive, but I was very unhappy with my visit today. I didn't appreciate how I was spoken to when I moved the table, given that the workers and even customers could see we were struggling to locate a table that would fit the pram in for a while before we were told where to sit. However, I am equally frustrated that the staff worker eventually moved a table herself. I don't think Ghales is accommodating for prams, and I believe that if particular tables cannot be utilised or changed/moved slightly for a pram, this should be explicitly stated. It isn’t fun spending 10 minutes looking for a suitable table especially when you’re restricted where to sit when you’re out with a 10 week baby.
What would have happened if there was more than one family in the same predicament? It seems as though they would turn them away than accommodate them, which is all that we...
Read moreOwner is rude & run things cheaply, so you end up with a product that is not worth what you pay, this place used to be great when run as “Latuskes”, now, not so much.
Some of the weekday staff are great & very helpful, but the weekend staff are children, I assume so she can pay them a cheaper wage (on the busiest days, someone make it make sense).
The portion sizes on the dhal & chickpea curry are appalling so definitely avoid them. When I highlighted the portion size to the owner, she came out and told me about the rising costs of ingredients. The ingredients She’s talking about are lentils & rice, two of the cheapest ingredients you can buy in bulk. There are about 4 mouthfuls of dhal & 3 mouthfuls of rice in the portion size, will be shown in pics but unsure if it will do it justice. There was no apology, nothing customer service oriented or polite at all. She was outright rude & dismissive. She agreed the portion size was small but blamed it on the cost of ingredients.
Bare in mind these dishes in question are £9.75, ingredients for this meal cost roughly 75p per portion when made in bulk, so I think it’s more of a cheapness & rudeness issue, rather than the rising cost of lentils.
Had multiple issues with this particular owner over the years, all related to being cheap & charging premium prices. Maybe she’d be better suited to a greasy spoons cafeteria (if she could handle lowering the price). I would say avoid this place at all costs, try other establishments like medicine in codsall, gluttons in Tettenhall, or lime tree coffee in Tettenhall - much better service & much more justification for the...
Read moreNot the first time I've been but it is the last. I've been on a couple of occasions with a friend and our two 18 month old children. Both times we were made to feel unwelcome. The first time we went we waited for 10 minutes and no one had come to the table, so we went to order and were told 'if you sit down and wait someone will be over'. This took a further 10 minutes. This seems to be the general attitude of the lady behind the counter as we experienced it both times. However, the food was good. The first time we went, the childrens scrambled egg came with toast. The second time, we were made to pay extra for the toast. We said we wouldn't go again. However, as a glutten for punishment I've been again with my husband (as I said the food had been good previously) today. It wasn't busy, plenty of free tables. Our order was taken, drinks arrived with food. I'd rather have had my drink earlier but I appreciate some like their drink with the food so that is by the by. However the food was cold. My husband had a breakfast and I had a bacon, brie and cranberry baguette with chips. All of it was cold. At no point did anyone come and ask how our food was. When I went to pay, no one asked if everything had been okay. Nothing. I got charged just short of £30 for 2 cold meals and 3 drinks. Needless to say, I definitely won't be returning again.
In response to the owner: we visited today (05.04.25). I appreciate that you offer table service, however, waiting 20 minutes for said table service is not...
