As it was a Friday night, the establishment was very busy and as we had not booked a table we were informed that the wait would be about an hour. As we had enjoyed our last visit and were celebrating our wedding anniversary, we decided that the wait would be worth it. And so it proved. We reported back at the reception desk at the time requested and a table was waiting for us, cleaned and freshly laid. A gentleman approached us soon after we had been seated and greeted us and apologized that the menu would be depleted by several items due to the extraordinary demand on their restaurant services that had been experienced over the previous few days. He was polite, yet jovial and once our drinks order had been taken and served, he then took our order for the Starter (a shared dish of Nachos accompanied by a variety of dips and chille con carni) followed by Scampi and chips for myself and a honey glazed ham hock, with peas and salad for my wife. Both courses were served without delay and were delicious, although in the case of my wife's choice, such was the size of her Ham Hock she was unable to finish it in one sitting and asked for a container so that we could take it home. This was duly done and we left the establishment, fully satiated and with the feeling of having really enjoyed ourselves. The prices had sadly, but understandably, increased since our last visit, however, we still felt that the evening was excellent value for money. Our thanks to the management and staff of the Oddfellows Hall in Compton, Wolverhampton for making our...
Read moreI don't know what to make of The Oddfellows restaurant these days. It used to be quite smart, with free nibbles whilst waiting for your food, with waiters/waitresses in a smart uniform. Today there was a young man in tattered jeans with a grubby towel slung over his white teashirt. Once, the waiter/waitress used to introduce themselves and explain that they were looking after you during your visit. Not any more! It was hard to get a smile out of our waitress this evening. The food is still good but corners seem to have been cut. My steak used to come with a large flat mushroom, it is now a very flat small mushroom. The nice chunk of tomato is now 4 or 5 baby tomatoes on the vine. The once succulent medium to well done steak is now just medium and seems smaller than I remember. The once lovely dollop of chips is now just a few chips scattered across a corner of the plate. Once, you could order drinks and they'd arrive promptly, now there is a long thirsty pause. Once I felt I was getting good value for money at the Oddfellows but today I feel overcharged for drinks and overcharged for food that has diminished in quantity. If you want average food with average service then you will...
Read moreCame for Christmas menu for my birthday with family- they mixed up the tables which weren’t dressed festively despite numerous previous calls-so bad start- food came out- no seasoning…weres the thyme/ rosemary -parsnips the size of the titanic… carrots cold…, slabs of dry turkey….dry potatoes … vegetarian option the tart pastry was hard and over salted -that’s best option despite numerous plant based/ quorn options on the market- complained to Gary who seemed to be surprised saying no one else had complained… well I am -and asked him to try the food- although Gary was apologetic and took money of the bill- this wasn’t about the bill… Christmas food was poor- please get your chefs to watch a Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver Christmas food video on YouTube- won’t coming here again
Thank you for your response- However at no point did we say that we were happy with the meals…your waiter was to busy and forgot drinks and had to be told twice…the complaint was raised to the manager… as for a generous discount that you mention… the meal cost approx £140… I still paid you £100 for a main meal that was not eaten but tasted … with 75 percent returned ! Hardly value for money...
