The Three Fishes is a standard Wetherspoon pub; however, unfortunately the food and the customer service wasn't anywhere near the standard I've experienced in other Wetherspoon pubs. Of our party one described the food as some of the worst he'd ever tried (He didn't eat most of it), another had to send back their manager's special pie which was black inside and my food didn't turn up to the table.
As we had all arrived and ordered food at different times I initially wasn't concerned when my dinner was the only one not to turn up, but after patiently waiting for an hour I got up to ask the barman where my food was. He instantly remembered the order without having to check the till and went to the kitchen to check the order. The manager told him he'd personally brought it around twice already, so I asked to speak to him personally. The manager made it clear that it was all my fault as apparently he'd he'd twice brought the food around and no-one had claimed it. I pointed out that my chair was not 3 feet away and directly looking at the place where he'd apparently twice stood with the food, I also hadn't left that seat since placing my order but this didn't stop him claiming that it was all my fault. As neither I nor any of the other people on my table had noticed him on either time he claimed to bring the food I think it is unlikely he ever brought it to our table.
There were also only two bar staff serving that night. I was sat directly in front of the barman who'd served me (who clearly remembered both me and my order) meaning the manager had obviously not even had the common sense to enquired at the bar regarding the order if it wasn't claimed. I think it is much more likely the meal had been left on the side in the kitchen and forgotten.
The manager explained that as it had been about 40 minutes since the food was cooked it was now ruined. Apparently I should have complained within 15-20 minutes of placing the order if the food hadn't turned up; so yet again it was firmly my fault for being too patient on what was a pretty busy night in the pub. After having to practically beg for another 10 minutes I eventually persuaded him to bring me a new meal.
At this point I had the temerity to ask if I could also get a drink; apparently the manager doesn't serve drinks! He called over the barman who'd originally served me, who was in the middle of serving someone else, and told him to pour me a drink. After serving the drink the barman went to return to his original customers only to be told 'Don't forget to charge him!'. Even the barman at this point looked a little incredulously at the manager (who was already standing operating the till to check my order) and asked if the manager couldn't ring it in. Apparently the manager also doesn't ring in orders; yet again he made the barman come back from serving his original customers to ring in my drink and take my money.
After this somewhat embarrassing debacle was finally over I returned to my table. About 2 minutes later my food arrived at the table, it was immediately clear that the meal hadn't been freshly prepared at all. It is impossible to cook something which is both lukewarm and desiccated within two minutes! If I had to guess I would say it was my original meal which had been thrown back under a hot plate for a couple of minutes and then brought out.
It is a shame to have to give The Three Fishes a 1 star rating as the bar staff were very good, but the food and especially the manager's attitude more than offset the good points of the pub. The manager at The Three Fishes desperately needs to go on some basic customer service courses; I'm pretty sure standing in the middle of the pub blaming your customer (despite all evidence to the contrary) for what was originally a simple and easily resolved mistake isn't part of the standard Wetherspoon's managerial training.
Suffice it to say I won't be returning to this particular...
Read moreVery, VERY, BAD!!! experience... Took my Fiancé for a surprise lunch. He decided on a burger, what was served up was beyond unacceptable, the burger was shrivelled and virtually cremated, the bun was rock hard and the so called salad filling was non existent, the menu said iceberg lettuce, what was in the bun was smaller than an old size postal stamp. NO CHECK BACK so when we finally managed to get the attention of who we think was a manageress and showed her the 'offering' there was ZERO interest, No apology, just "Would you like another one one?" When we asked for a refund there was still no apology. I ordered Ham, Egg and Chips, a usual favourite, after paying over NINE pounds I was served what looked smaller than a toddlers portion, when I complained, I was treated like a liar who was trying to get a bigger portion. Our order was checked on the till but was still looked at with suspicion. When my replacement came it was worse than the original with 2 HALF slices of ham. I was told on ordering I couldn't have fried eggs which was puzzling, I could have poached or 'scrambled' ??? What came with meal was about a 'spoonful' of cold scrambled egg Usually enjoy going there but will not be...
Read moreVisited the three fishes Worthing today with my family. We had to be seated upstairs as the ground floor was full no disabled access to first floor. The table we ended up at wasn’t cleaned from the last customers so we did that with materials from toilets. While we were there we ordered from the menu. The staff forgot to bring coffee cups for 2 of us and found you had to walk back downstairs to use the coffee machine and walk back up carrying hot coffee. There was sufficient space for a coffee machine upstairs and the general public walking around the place surely is a health and safety issue. As our food order arrived parts of the order were missing and we had to keep asking for them. The same was for the dessert Oder the staff only cleared the table of Crocker ect as the deserts were almost finished. One table was left with crockery for almost an hour or so. I popped out to my car and found several staff member outside smoking while slow service was going on. Not very good !! The food was good considering all of the above that really...
