MAK — Restaurant in Worthing

Sorry don’t like to write negative reviews but on this occasion it needs to be said.

Asked for bread whilst waiting for our friend. Bread arrived with no small plates to butter bread on. Had to ask for plates. You would normally be provided with smalls plates wouldn’t you?? What are we supposed to butter our bread on? Our hands??!

Ordered drinks and asked for starters and main to come out same time. Had to chase drinks up after 30 mins. They said there was a backlog. The place was half empty.

One starter came just before we chased up the drinks. Where was the rest?? We got the rest 20 mins later!

As the food and drinks came out late we were still eating when we were told they would be closing in a few minutes! We mentioned the late service of food to the waiter and that we hadn’t finished eating. His response was well you were late! Our friend turned up 15 mins late but that’s not the point? We were looking at the menu whilst waiting for her and ordered straight away after she had arrived.

The food was ok, had chicken on skewers with rice as a main. The chicken was tasteless to be honest. No flavour. Going to Fernandos next door was very tempting after! The mushroom in sauce was tasty, can’t really remember the rest it was that good 😐

But to be fair it is a lovely and classy looking restaurant.

Will we recommend this place? Yes as it’s still a business trying to make money and everyone’s experience is different! Hopefully a better experience than ours! Will we go back? No 😂 unless we hear things...

MAK has very quickly turned into one of my favourite restaurants in Worthing. I've visited twice in 2 weeks and each time has been amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The decor is gorgeous and everything is so clean. The seating is comfortable and spacious. The food is absolutely spot on. I spent many years eating in Turkey and Greece and so far everything I've had has been a huge reminder of these countries. The mixed shish - wow. I've not tasted meat so fresh and flavoursome in a long time. Portions are huge! Even for the tipsy tapas. Today I had the fillet steak and it was cooked as I asked and what a beautiful piece if steak 👌 The service is great, everyone is so friendly. Special shout out to Ash for being so good with my 11 month old today. This is a Mediterranean restaurant, you don't need to shove things down your throat in an hour. Such a shame. The food was excellent, service was decent and a lovely atmos. My wife and I ordered two starters, two mains and two drinks each. Then the bill came... £115?! Checked the reciept and Somehow, two single vodka and lemonades equated to an eye-watering £36! Our server neglected to inform us until the bill came that as vodka and lemonades weren't strictly on the menu they had to make it off menu (strange), creating a wildly high price. Itemised, a single shot of vodka cost £15x2 and the lemonades used in the mix were £3x2. We were disgusted and reluctantly paid the obscene price. The manager was very kind to us and was extremely polite. She re-imbursed us a four pounds and offered alternatives free of charge to take the sting out but sadly we stil paid an egregiously colossal bill for what we had. The experience has left us in two minds, the saving grace being the terrific manager. Ultimately, I would recommend this place so long as you keep a very sharp eye on what you're being...
