I last reviewed this pub 4 years ago as a 3/4 star. Having been going more frequently recently, I'm updating my review to a solid 5. The decor inside the pub is a throwback to how all pubs used to be (see video) and is maintained and looked after throughout. The current owners are extremely welcoming to anyone who passes through the front or back door. There is space to go as a large group or just with a friend (or even on your own as there are plenty of locals there). There is a rear outdoor seating area/smoking area overlooking the canal. The facilities are looked after and they smell clean. The beer selection is quite accommodating for all tastes and it tastes clean too. The drink selection is vast if you like certain spirits or mixers, this is a place for you. With a TV in the largest area of the bar, which provided well during the 2022 World Cup. Staff look after and accommodate all. The locals are very welcoming and friendly. In the summer there is an area downstairs which has benches, next to the canal too. A short walk from the town centre, so close to all methods of transport. The on-road parking outside is accommodating if you decide to drive or the snall car park around the rear. The current landlady and landlord have exciting plans for the pub and how to improve it too. There are treat jars on the side of the bar if you decide to bring a pooch with you (there isn't many dogs in the pub and they tend to stick to one side, so if you have a fear of dogs don't let this deter you!) And access to the local canal pathway or pathway back to vines is immediately outside. Definitely recommend visiting this pub if you haven't in a while! You'll be pleased!

Surprising bonus when I found this one by chance when I was looking for something else. A nice selection of ales and out of the way just on the outer part of town. With a nice beer garden overlooking the canal. G great staff and smashing prices.

Nice friendly pub, with reasonably priced beer and helpful staff. Ideally located close to the canal. Well worth a visit!

Had a very tasty yet strangely cheap meal here on our way by in a canal boat. The wharf just outside was very convenient with an access path that leads up to the pub. Although quiet (apart from a toddler playing, that was the 1 star missing, I realise they need looking after, but it's still a pub) the staff where friendly and welcoming, and the basket food was very tasty. Home cut and cooked chips are so rare in pubs these days and they made the difference. I would charge more though. £3.45 for a basket of scampi, chips and mushy peas is a steal, compare that to the price they were charging in the pub 2 days later of £11.50 for essentially the same thing and you'll see what I mean. If I'm passing again I'll pop in. Thanks for...

BAD,BAD,BAD, came here today with my children and partner, lovely young polite girl serving behind the bar , we were seated in the bar Wher my children had to sit listening to swearing, food was very poor!! Ther was a hair on my sons dinner , parsnips were white not roasted, presentation was shocking all thrown on plate , was looking forward to coming here after passing a few times and seeing reviews, no potatoes part from two boiled potatoes roasted, burnt Yorkshire puddings, and they came back with ice cream from local shop which I guess would of been our dessert IF we was to have it , which is safe to say after few mouthfuls of dinner we couldn’t wait to leave...
