Ever since Mary's Mexican closed down due to Covid, I have been trying out other small Mexican restaurants around Abilene to find one that could replace Mary's. If you are follower of my restaurant reviews or a subscriber to my YouTube channel (Jungle Explorer), you know that one of my complaints about Abilene is the lack of good true authentic Mexican cuisine, or any other foreign cuisines for that matter. The Abilene culture is just not one that is very accepting to new things or spicy food in general, so it is hard for an authentic cuisine restaurant to stay in business here. This was my first visit to Oscar's and it was a pleasant visit. I was greeted by the friendly staff at the door and seated right away. I open the menu and found your standard Tex-Mex dishes that are common to all Tex-Mex restaurants. You know, Tacos, enchiladas, burritos, etc. I looked to see if they had a Molcajete dish, but they did not. I then looked for Caldo de Res, and that was also not on the menu. You know my rule, if you they don't serve Caldo de Res, they are not authentic Mexican. So, Oscar's is a Tex-Mex restaurant, and that is how I am reviewing them, not for what they are not, but for what they are. As a Tex-Mex restaurant, I would have to say that Oscar's is as good as any other in Abilene, better then some. Tex-Mex is simple food and is hard to mess up, but there are some that find a way. Oscar's is not one of them. I had the Fajita combo plate and it was delicious. My wife had the Green Chili enchiladas and they were equally as good. My son had the tamale plate and loved it. The one thing that I really liked about Oscar's was how they brought the chips and salsa out. Most Tex-Mex restaurants bring out a big basket of chips and a little bowl of salsa, which is gone after a few chips. At Oscar's they bring out a generous bottle of salsa and two bowls with the basket of chips. Oscar's is the first Tex-Mex restaurant that I did not run out of salsa before the chips were gone. In fact, there was enough salsa to finish off an additional basket of chips. Oscar's gets a gold star for this feature only. The staff was very attentive and came by frequently to make sure we were happy with our food. They staff here seems to really care about their customers and want them to be happy. If I get a hankering for Tex-Mex, I will certainly be back to Oscar's again.

I have only ever used the drive-through, so I'm not too sure how inside looks interms of the atmosphere, but all I can say is im hooked on their burritos, specifically the carne con Chile, I could eat 10 of them it's simply delicious. Their tortilla for the burrito is simply heavily, it's cloud like. I also had the egg and cactus breakfast burrito, and it was loaded. I bought 2 but only managed one and a half. Definitely give em a try. Staff seems friendly and accommodating you won't be disappointed.

Went to the new Oscar's on Buffalo Gap Rd. Not impressed. Service was excellent and very attentative. Atmosphere had ample seating and not too busy. Chips were stale, salsa was good. We ordered queso which was really watery with no flavor. I ordered shrimp quesadillas. Literally got 2 shrimp per slice and a very small amount of cheese. Not happy with my super teeny tiny small teaspoon serving of avocado. Hope they step it up!

Came for breakfast with the family. We enjoyed our time together but the experience there wasn't great. Our waitress was pretty rude when ordering things. We would ask for Caldo or toast and she would flat out be like "We don't have it" abruptly without even making suggestions to us as if we know what the alternative is for that item. She was just so rude with no sense of humor and acted like she didn't want us there. I don't even know why we tipped her so well. But also the food was just disgusting. I ordered the Chorizo and Egg plate. My chorizo and egg looked like it was made a month ago! It was brown and burnt and tasted like it was made with Hot Dogs not chorizo. They didn't even give you any beans with your plate. It look liked 2 tbs worth of beans. I do have to say the chips and salsa were so good but why offer us something and then tell me I have to pay for that. Like I thought the salsa and chips were complementary with the food but guess not. Anyways, I would NEVER come back here again. I was invited to go there but I will skip out next time. With the prices they charge its absolutely ridiculous. They should be ashamed serving food like that. Oh yeah I also had food poisoning from it. I didn't eat anything the rest of the day but that...

I have mixed reviews about this restaurant. We drove through and ordered 2 burritos for my wife and I, and they were amazing!! We ordered plain chicken tacos for our son because he only eats the meat, what we were given was ground chicken with all the fixings. When we went to return it, we were told we got the cheap meat and the other chicken is more expensive because it was a fajita chicken. We explained we ony wanted plain chicken tacos, so they took the order back and gave us a large flat piece of chicken. 😲😲 All this after giving them a 20%tip. My wife then went in to talk to the manager and he made things right, but we should not have had to go through all that. Did not realize plain chicken tacos were...
