We visited this black owned establishment on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. I have heard around my community that this is a great place to eat! Prior to I called and left a message before opening time to set a reservation for 6 pm that evening. Not long after I received a text that my reservation was accepted. There is free parking in the plaza of the restaurant which is quite nice. Although it can get crowded due to the crowd demand for this business. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the owner who confirmed our reservation. The restaurant has a Mediterranean feel and reminded me of Greece with the blue and white theme. They even have a Mediterranean style fireplace inside which I’m sure they light during the colder months for an added comfort aesthetic. We were seated immediately at a nice table for two towards the back wall. I understood why they didn’t seat us in the middle due to those tables being for larger parties and I was grateful we didn’t get seated near the kitchen also. Our waitress came right over and introduced herself as MJ. She was very nice, professional, and knowledgeable on the menu. They had a specific menu for July 20, 2022 and also their set standard menu. The waitress informed us you can order from either or for the evening and all menu items were in stock. We ordered the following items: fried alligator, white sangria, swordfish au poivre with hashbrowns & French green beans, roasted half chicken with garlic mashed potatoes & French green beans, and the cinnamon spice cake. The sangria came out shortly and was lightly sweet and quite refreshing. The fried alligator came out right after which was crispy, had a nice breaded coating with the succulent meat, and the sweet Thai chili sauce was a great complement. The alligator was not rubbery and was easy to chew. Not long after our entrees came out. The waitress MJ constantly checked on us throughout our meal experience. They also had staff to take plates away from the table constantly. The swordfish patty was crisp and had a classic flaky texture on the inside. It was seasoned well and was a great experience for my first time having swordfish. The honey mustard cognac was a great complement for dipping the swordfish in. The hash brown reminded me of Waffle House hashbrowns except with the gooey cheese and peppers inside. The green beans were cooked pretty well and weren’t too crisp or too mushy. The portion sizes were pretty good also and I ended up having a to go plate. My boyfriend stated the baked chicken was crisp and the pan jus included made the chicken have a buttery savory taste. He stated this was the best baked chicken he’s ever had. He also enjoyed the French green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. I did use the restroom which was clean although a bit hot temperature wise. I assume this is because the women’s restroom is right by the kitchen. I can tell this is a popular place because there were so many people that filed in throughout the evening. The cinnamon spice cake dessert was very delicious. The cake was so moist, perfectly sweet, and rich. The vanilla bean icecream and homemade whipped cream was the perfect combination. The cake even had a nice toasted marshmallow on top which made it even more decadent. The waitress informed us that one of the employees there makes the cinnamon spice cake dessert themselves. This was an amazing experience and we greatly enjoyed the food and service. As we were leaving the owner noticed I was taking photos and asked if I was going to leave a review. I stated yes and it would be on Google. She proceeded to take our photo and stated she would post it on Instagram. They also have really lovely patio area with nice greenery outside and plenty of patio seating. It was too hot to sit outdoors, but it would be perfect for early fall. All of the staff seemed quite professional and service oriented. I felt the drive was a bit far being that it’s in Acworth, but it is definitely worth the drive. I highly recommend everyone in Atlanta try this black owned business and make the drive...
Read moreIf was our 31st Anniversary and went out for an earlier dinner. We ordered a cheese dip appetizer after discussing how we couldn't tolerate spicy foods. When received, it was spicy so I didn't eat. Waited for the entrées, but it took a while to come out. When the entrées arrived (we ordered the same thing) My husband's looked great but mine didn't and I couldn't even pick it up with the fork because it was baked on to the plate. I finally got a piece but I couldn't chew it. I discovered it had been backed onto the paper that I'm assuming was used to separate the fish fillets. We waited for the server as by this time the restaurant was busy. My husband stopped eating to wait for me but his meal was getting cold. The server came then left to get management. Management never came. Eventually they offered to make ME another meal, but with so much time going by and the place now crowded I would never get my meal in time to dine with my husband. We requested the check as I was starving and feeling tearful since our celebratory anniversary meal had been ruined by our experience. I got up to walk out while my husband was still waiting - my eyes kept tearing up - and bumped into a male manager that asked if the medal was ok to which I responded it wasn't. He asked for an explanation and then replied "Wow" then turned me too the "owner", Veronica. He requesting I explain it to her so I briefly explained again to her and she questioned about the paper, as if doubting me, then replied with a flat "I'm sorry". She asked where my husband was and I advised them she turned away to speak with some seated customers in the waiting area. Nothing else spoken to me. I told her I was going outside because I'm very upset and don't want to stand there and she just gave an ok. That was it. I waited about 15 minutes before my husband came out and he said no one ever spoke to him. They simply have him a check for his meal and the dip, around $55-60 before tip and that was it. I later called and spoke to Veronica, the owner, who expressed her irritation with me. She seemed confused as to what the problem was, advised she "said sorry", and that the server offered to bring me another meal. I explained the timing was an issue as well because I couldn't don't with my husband and his meal was ruined in effect advising it was all Anniversary Dinner. She made some derogatory comments to me then said in a very harsh tone emphasizing each word "What do you want?!" Then repeated it again, because I paused in shock. I eventually replied "I want you to get a better attitude" then hung up. It was obvious she didn't care in the least that our celebratory dinner had been ruined due to their errors. A manager or she herself should have promptly come to our table to apologize and offer to prepare new entrées for BOTH of us and a more suitable appetizer offered (or remove the charge for the existing one e couldn't eat). Instead she showed arrogance and a complete disinterest in what had taken place. I felt terrible for the server as he clearly felt awful about what had happened. I couldn't imagine working for someone so thoughtless and inconsiderate. Mistakes can happen, but how you handle them speaks volumes. She was given two opportunities to make things right and did nothing but insult me with her rude behavior and total disinterest. We will NEVER done there again. (Would have posted pictures of the paper that I pulled from my mouth and the plate itself but was too upset to think of it at that moment and though it was...
Read moreThis was my first time here. The atmosphere was immediately calming. It reminded me of some of the more upscale restaurants in Mykonos, Greece. All white plaster walls, lots of arches and spacious. Our waiter was kind and genuine. I asked about one of the wines and wanted to know where it was from since it wasn't listed on the menu. He didn't know and offered to find out. He brought me a taste which I wouldn't have needed if I had known the region it was made in. I never found out. It WAS what I was looking for so I was pleased. While we are on the subject of the wine list. It was very basic and sparse. Typical, moderate and average. It was obvious to me that there was not a wine enthusiast in charge of the selection. It seemed very dated. Specifically, I refer to Kendall Jackson Chardonnay and Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. These wines had their "heyday" in the late 80s into the 90s. The wine selection did not equal the high quality and flavor of the food. My table truly enjoyed the mussels cooked in something of a burre blanc broth with shallots and herbs. I nice chunk of toasted and crusty bread came with for delicious dunking. The oysters Rockefeller were delicious as well. They were made "by the book". Our fish entrees were spectacular. I ordered the 9 oz. swordfish with a black pepper and panko crust that was served with a delightful honey mustard cognac sauce (It came on the side which I thought was odd, but I suppose too many guests were afraid they wouldn't like it so the chef gave in to that, perhaps to keep from remaking the dish. Of course, this is just my assumption.) The swordfish was perfectly cooked which is not always an easy thing to do. Tender, juicy and so very tasty. I tried my sisters horseradish grouper and it was beautiful as well. The sides we each ordered for our fish were enjoyed. I did need salt for the green beans. There was no room for dessert, which by the looks of them it was not going to be a light finish. I would highly recommend Fish Thyme to anyone. It is my sister's favorite restaurant and I am so glad I was finally able to share it with her and my niece. I look forward to going back when I visit Georgia again. P.S. I have been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. It is impossible for me to go to any restaurant and not view it from the inside out. I watch everything and to me, once a place gets the big stuff right (food, wine, ambiance and staffing) it should then become about the million little things that can influence a guests experience. Staff knowledge is a very important thing to me. If a staff person doesn't have proficient knowledge of all of the restaurants products (especially food and drinks) I assume the restaurant doesn't enforce it. Sadly, I find that to be the case in these current times. Knowledge and genuine care cultivates trust which then allows the guest to relax and have an experience along...
