I hate to even do this, but I live right by this place and have been wanting to try it. Stopped in yesterday for dinner before heading downtown for a comedy show. We were seated and given a basket of bread. The focaccia was soft and good but the bread was hard and seemed old or like it had been sitting out. Service was slow. The waiter asked us about ordering apps and we told him to give us a few minutes. It was 15 mins later he came back to finally take our order. We ordered the carpaccio as an appetizer. Ordered a panzerotto BAKED not fried, and a panini. The waiter forgot to put in the order for the panzerotto, so he brought out the carpaccio as a meal for my boyfriend along with the “panini” for me - which was NOT a panini, it was literally a cold cut sub. I was very disappointed. The sandwich taste was good if you wanted a cold cut, but I was expecting a hot pressed panini. We had to ask for bread to eat the Carpaccio with, which it should be served with bread. We had to wait 10 minutes for bread because they had to make more (thankfully because the first basket was old) We had to wait another 15 minutes for the panzerotto. Which I wish we wouldn’t have even waited for it because it was so gross that my boyfriend couldn’t even eat it. It was definitely not baked, it was OVER fried and so salty, barely any cheese inside. I know they’re new and it takes some time to get settled and figure things out, but unfortunately I was off put by our experience. The owner was sitting at the bar. We told the waiter that the panzerotto was gross. Nobody did anything about it. I will not be a returning customer at this point. I felt like it was a waste of time and money. I would have rather eaten downtown since we were heading that way, but wanted to give this a try. Atmosphere is good, the waiter was nice but very inexperienced, and food was...
Read moreBuon Johnny is a fantastic new addition to Itasca! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm ambiance and inviting atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and authentically Italian.
I highly recommend starting with the Calamari and Bruschetta, both perfectly prepared. For the main course, the Linguine Frutti di Mare was outstanding, packed with shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels in a rich tomato sauce. I also tried the Risotto with Shrimp & Asparagus, and it did not disappoint—creamy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. They also have a great selection of pizzas!
A big plus is their after-6 PM specials—half-off entrées on Mondays, half-off pizzas on Tuesdays, half-off appetizers on Wednesdays, and free dessert with an entrée on Thursdays. Definitely a great reason to visit during the week!
Service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend Buon Johnny for anyone looking for great Italian...
Read moreOrdered two pizzas via carryout at 10 pm a Thursday. Staff who answered the phone did not know how to use POS system and was shouting to another member asking for directions on what to do while I was on the phone. Very amateurish as most phones have the ability to mute or hold. Accidentally went into the bar/restaurant when I went to pick up. The vibe was decent and bar and restaurant patrons appear to be enjoying themselves. Walked over to carryout side of the building. The kitchen had to call server to help me. The Server did not know how to locate my order on the POS and had to ask their bartender for help. Glad I didn't need to pay with a credit card. Was hoping this rebrand wasn't going to be a continuation of prior operations but they are far too along in their journey to believe otherwise. Pizza was decent, kids liked the cheese. Won't come back based on the entire experience. Mediocrity continues to be the standard for all restaurants in Itasca which is...
