Had lunch here during the week, slow when we arrived but picked up soon after. The staff here were very friendly, & our food preparation and delivery on time on task. Thankfully we just beat the lunch time rush.
Had Mediterranean Wrap which was fair and a tad plain, needed some vinegar, oil and spices, raspberry vinaigrette or tzatziki to remedy being a dry wrap and a bit more bacon. Also would be nice to toast the outer wrap. It was good otherwise and these would make outstanding. How do I know, cause the half I took home got these & a 5 Stars review =p
My daughter had a BBQ Chicken Sandwich and said it was good. Our fried were actually large wedge like cottage fries. Had I known this I would have had something else. These typically absorb too much grease and this was certainly the case here. Did not eat them, even my daughter who loves fries didn't eat many. I ordered them CRISP, they did not come that way. Given the above average prices on the menus for a diner setting, these dropped the value for the price premium paid. The 2 soups we had were great. The bread & crackers basket on the table are a nice touch & were nicely presented & stocked with variety, also a nice touch.
The service was okay to average, as it got busy dropped to below average. Like many places, seems to be the trend. However, having worked in restaurants and service many years, and being from the Conrad Hilton school and approach, this should very seldom be compromised. You do what you have to, pay more, praise and love your staff more, change your own ways, whatever it takes to have your staff and service shine in this department. It's the area customers will lean upon and forgive any other areas that need improvement. We waited a bit too long as we finished, ready and waiting to leave. I observed a few tables waiting a long time to order, wait staff struggling in the weeds, the host person not at the register when I first went to pay. Then 5 minutes later, when I saw him and asked, do we pay at table or up from, he seemed a bit put off and said, "of course at the register", communicating a feeling that I had done something wrong, and I'm not often the sensitive type. Then he asked, "How was everything?". Poor timing there too because he'd just soured the pot a tad more.
Some tables & booths not totally clean. The shelved areas along windows are noticeably pretty dusty & dirty, same with men's room, front doors and vestibule. This is what in the end really made me go down from 2 1/2 to 2 Stars, rather than the benefit of a rounding up to 3 Stars. C'mon, we and other people are eating here, the unacceptable amount of dust & dirt along the shelved window sills, plus with the air conditioning blowing in summer or heat in winter(btw blowing too cold this visit).
Had we arrived a bit later and been in the wait tank the while time, like the other customers observed on the back end of our visit. I'm pretty sure this likely would have been a 1 Star if we can 20 minutes later for the reasons alluded to. Being friendly and on task for most of the visit on the service end, for the most part, saved that from happening here. Things were better years ago when I'd come here, it's a lot of good feedback and within reach to make improvements. It's a different game in the modern tech & post...
Read moreNormally I would not leave a low rating for a place, especially one I thought highly of before. As it was Valentine's Day, I understood it would be a bit busy/hectic and expected to wait a little. I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a table immediately. My wife and I discussed what we wanted to have, but soon we became a bit bothered by the lack of waitstaff around. I was thirsty and there weren't waters being poured as they usually are. The waitress came over and took our drink order, apologizing for the wait. She mentioned that we should have had waters always ready. The drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive at the table, but a little was taken off the bill for the wait.
While waiting for our third party member, we requested some spicy wings for me as I had not eaten in a while. When they came out, they had virtually no flavour and were incredibly dry. I didn't complain because I knew that my entree would be delicious. Our third member arrived and we ordered. My wife and I had the chicken Parmesan as I had loved it the last time we came in. Our third ordered meatloaf. We were a bit underwhelmed by the flavor. The chicken was either very lightly breaded or not breaded at all. The sauce was good, as was the garlic bread.
Soon enough, we were done eating and were all thirsty as we hadn't had a refill on water in a while. In fact, we didn't see our waitress again for quite some time. The owner came by and asked if we needed boxes. We said yes. After packing our leftovers, I noticed that we still hadn't received water refills. I was incredibly disappointed. She did stop by one more time when we asked for the check. She dropped it off and said she'd be back with a bag for our containers. After a few minutes of waiting, we decided to not wait another 20 minutes just for a bag, so we got up to pick out desserts.
When we paid, I really didn't want to leave a tip because the service was fairly poor. Waitress was nice, but wasn't around. Maybe it was too busy and they were understaffed. I'm not sure. My wife tipped much better than I expected. Overall, it wasn't a good experience. I may have complained to the owner, but he seemed angry. He also used the same knife to cut different cakes without wiping it off. I just wanted to get out of there. Maybe tonight was just a fluke, but I doubt I will...
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant off and on for years. I love the food and the service is great. I have something that I witnessed while at the restaurant the last 2 times and I have to say I am very upset that I saw what I saw. I witnessed a waitress return un-eaten rolls that were on a customers table back into a bin to be reused. This was the 2nd time I witnessed this. It wasn't just one server, it was any of them that were returning rolls from customers tables. I also saw them return uneaten fruit (dish of grapes) back into the cooler behind the counter near the kitchen to be used again. This is very unsanitary as you do not know how many people have touched that food or what kind of germs have been spread on them. To prove my point that it was happening, the bread that was left on my table, I made sure to pull apart and damage so it could not be reused. When my waitress removed the napkin from the top of the basket to put the bread back, she noticed that I had damaged the uneaten rolls and threw them in the garbage. She looked over at me with disappointment. I watched the entire thing happen before I got up to cash out my bill. I wanted to make sure that I was correct in how food is being returned and reused for other people instead of being disposed of. In my opinion, this is very unsanitary and could spread viruses to others. You may want to ask for fresh bread/rolls when dining in. I have witnessed this another time while I was there but wanted to make sure I saw what I saw before posting it. My 3 stars is not a reflection on the food itself, (besides the bread issue) as I have always enjoyed my meals while dining there. More towards the lack of keeping their customers safe and healthy. The uneaten food is being placed in a basket by the waitstaff, ungloved, handed out to customers who may or may not pick thru them, ungloved and then returned by the waitstaff to a wash type bin to be touched by someone else and handed out. The amount of germs that are on this food - unbelievable. This food is being touched after tables are cleaned but hands not washed from...
