After an amazing day at the Cantigny Park, with my date, we decided to go get some food. She was in total control, and decided to surprise me, she put directions into google maps, and onward we went.
On the way to this hidden gem, we drove past a couple honorable mentions, like Famous Dave's, Taco 'Bout It, and Culvers. I am glad we didn't stop at any of those fine establishments. We got to the parking lot, and my eyes widen up at the sign, it read... Briki Cafe
I honestly never heard of this cafe before, I was intrigued. She parked the car, I grabbed my phone, which at the time Spotify was playing in the car.
We locked hands for the first time, and started to walk towards the cafe. My phone accidently continued with Spotify when I put it in my pocket, and started to play, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclamiers. It was a special moment, and one to remember from time to come. You had to be there, it was adorable.
Once entering the Briki Cafe, something caught my eye, I asked my date if this was a Greek restaurant? She glances up at me, and says yes! I knew this was going to be a great experience, because I like Greek Food, well done by her. We sat down in our booth, and surprisingly had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We order dos waters, and started to look over the menu.
First thing that caught our eyes, were the Loukoumades. I knew we were gonna come back to those, so I played coy. We looked over the starters, right away we saw... Gyro Fries... SOLD! We placed an order for that immediately, and they turned out amazing. I wish the tirosalata was more on the top, most of it fell on the bottom.
We moved onto the sandwich section next. Full Disclosure, my date wanted to do breakfast, but I convinced her to do lunch with that Gyro Fry order. I apologize to my Dork, and thank you for your sacrifice. She told me to order for the both of us at this point. I think she was over it, so I decided to do two sandwich options, and split them, that way we can try something new. We ordered the Street Food Wrap, and the Goat Cheese Wrap. My date said a beautiful prayer before we proceeded with our meals. The food turned out amazing. I am thankful that she dragged me here, and was patient with me.
We finally got full, and decided to get some to-go boxes to put the leftovers in. The waitress brought the boxes over, and the bill. While my date was boxing up the leftovers, I asked her if she wanted to do dessert?
This is where the Loukoumades come in play. I honestly didn't know that was the name of them. They are like small fried doughnuts, very yummy. When the waitress came over, we asked if we can do dessert. My date started to describe them, and the waitress started to list the different types. As soon as she listed Cinnamon Roll, my date and I slowly looked at each other, and mentally agreed upon that choice. I told the waitress that's the one, you don't need to continue. She convinced us to split the order to try another flavor, we agreed upon Nutella as the 2nd choice. You think we were going to say No? We split our sandwiches, why not try with the dessert.
The Loukoumades took about 8 mins to fry. Once they got to our table, the waitress insisted that they were extremely hot. I went for one! The Cinnamon Roll Loukomades were calling my name, as soon as she mentioned it as a choice. I was excited, and popped that sucker right in my mouth. Instant regret, I mumbled to my date in mid conversation, "ITS HAHHHHHHot." She goes in instant tear mode. Starts laughing so hard, she starts to cry. I ran out of water, that how fresh they were, and had to share hers. The waitress comes back, and asked how they turned out? My date threw me underneath the bus right away, '"So you know when you said they were hot? This dork, had one right away, and almost burnt himself." They both laughed at me. lol good times.
I gave it 4 Stars, because there was one fly that was bothering us the whole time, we named her Athena after awhile.
Great Service. Amazing Food. I would love to go back with her, to try...
Read moreUpdated: so I was super excited after the first time I tried Briki. Except the next two times proved that maybe I was just really hungry when I tried it the first time. Anything would have been amazing. So I thought maybe the second time we tried it, it was just a fluke, but then the third confirmed that's likely not the case. The gyros are just ok, the meat just okay. The tzatziki is still AMAZING, but the rest was mediocre at best. The meat was dry and almost flavorless. The pita was just ok. The fries just as gross as the first time, oily, soggy and overall just not what you would expect a fry to be. Coleslaw, still good. We have tried several other entrees, and they were nothing that great. So I did three tries with Briki and I will not be back. The breakfast food is more appealing, but it's not something I would go back to get especially at their prices. And no, I'm not cheap, I will spend the money if I think it's worth it.
Original: So I heard this place was good, so of course, I had to try it. It lived up to the hype. The gyros were delicious. We tried the lamb, pork belly and chicken gyros and they were literally some of the best gyros I have ever had. -The tzatziki sauce was absolutely delicious! -The coleslaw was equally delicious. -We also got the meatballs and again, delicious. -Then we got a bacon double cheeseburger and to be honest, the actual beef patties had no flavor, but the toppings were to die for. The bun, homemade pickles, mayo, lettuce, and bacon...omg they were so good. Considering it's not a burger place I can't hold the lack of flavor in the meat against them, especially since the toppings were amazing. -The only real downfall we found were that the fries we got were super soggy and full of oil. We tossed them in the oven and in about 6 minutes they were better. Still really flavorful, just wish they weren't so soggy. prices are slightly higher than if you were to get a gyro from a greasy spoon sort of place, but it's totally worth it and you can taste the difference. Overall, it was a really great experience and we WILL be back. I strongly urge...
Read moreBrought my husband here for the first time. He loved it! Liked they had Stella beer, and they brought it with a chilled, frosted glass. He had the Itailian Steak. The seasoning was flavorful, and the meat was tender. It was served with fries with the skin on. The sandwich had provolone cheese with a sauce on it. Delicious! I had the Ouzo shrimp. Nice, light, and bursting with flavor! Garlic, basil and red pepper flakes for a little kick. Served with rice and Feta. I couldn't finish it so I have a small side for another meal. I wish the dinners would come with a small side salad, but there is not even an option on the menu. That was the only thing missing. They have a full dessert menu, but we were full. Even though this is becoming more common, I don't like they add a 3% fee for credit cards and debit cards. I don't understand the fee for a debit card either, I would be apt to even do that without a fee. Raise the prices .25 an item, so it's hidden. They do have a Groupon that offsets this fee, so that made me feel better. This place has a modern and new decor and look. It's a friendly and peaceful place. I noticed a couple if tables with single customers and also full tables of friends. There is an option for outdoor seating. Please support this awesome family...
