A True Gem – Blue Agave Restaurant Goes Above and Beyond
I had the pleasure of visiting Blue Agave Restaurant for the first time today at their Agoura Hills location, though I’m no stranger to their incredible food—I frequent the Ventura location all the time. I can confidently say they serve some of the best Mexican cuisine around, both in terms of flavor and quality. Their service is top-notch, and it’s clear that they genuinely care about their customers.
One of the owners, Roger (whom I’ve met before), is the kind of person who puts people first. He’s not just about running a great restaurant—he’s about making an impact on the community. I recently heard an incredible story from my fellow firefighters that speaks volumes about the character of this establishment.
During the recent wildfires that tore through LA and Ventura County, when nearly every restaurant was closed due to power outages, Blue Agave stepped up in an unbelievable way. Using a generator, they prepared meals with the food they had already stocked for the week and served exhausted, hungry firefighters—completely free of charge. In a time of crisis, they didn’t hesitate to support those risking their lives to protect our communities.
It’s acts like these that set Blue Agave apart. This is more than just a restaurant; it’s a business that truly cares. I was already a fan of the Ventura location, and now, after my first visit to Agoura Hills, I can say they consistently deliver amazing food and hospitality across the board.

Read moreThe food here is hit or miss. The carne asada tacos are delicious, but the carne asada plate falls flat—it lacks that signature flavor you’d expect. My wife, who’s vegetarian, always struggles to find something she enjoys. The red sauce on items like enchiladas tastes more like sour tomato paste than a rich, flavorful salsa.
Their house salsa is fantastic, and honestly, it’s one of the main reasons we occasionally come back. That said, the biggest letdown is the price-to-portion ratio. I finished my carne asada plate in minutes—not because I was starving, but because there just wasn’t much on the plate. Even my wife, who eats small portions, often leaves still feeling hungry.
On the bright side, the service is excellent. The staff is always kind and thoughtful—they’ve even brought out complimentary rice and beans for our son, which was a sweet gesture. The atmosphere is laid-back, with interesting artwork on the walls—nothing fancy, but not bland either.
This place has potential, but it really needs to offer more generous portions and fix that off-putting red sauce on their wet items. Will we come back? Probably—but not...
Read moreThe food is amazing! Their chips are fresh and crunchy! Not stale at all, their salsa selection is the best i’ve had in a mexican restaurant. From the most mild to the hottest, they are all so flavorful and the hottest one isnt too hot that its over bearing! The meat is well seasoned. We got the carne asada fries and ive never seen any restaurant be so generous with the sour cream and quacamole! This place isnt skimpy at all and the portions are huge!!! Their aguas frescas were also made in house and not from that jose ole machine you see in most places. The horchata has that real rice/cinnamon flavor and it was nice and refreshing! Service was great! The woman working the register was very kind and gave a nice warm inviting energy. The establishment is clean and the restrooms were as well! I live 2 hours away but I will most definitely be back whenever I’m in the area! I would love to try more of their menu items! Maybe the chilaquiles next? Cant wait! I hope this location prospers...
