I wanted to love this local sushi spot, but it's probably the worst sushi I've had in all of Los Angeles...
First we ordered the Yellow Tail Carpaccio and Garlic Albacore. On the menu it states that it's thinly sliced but we received really thick meaty cuts of fish that were clearly lower grade as I hadn't seen Albacore have little red dots all over before and the flavor was quite fishy, but maybe that's because they were so thickly sliced. Then we ordered two spicy tuna handrolls and it was the strangest thing I've ever received for a hand roll of tuna. It looked like the sushi chef took a giant ice cream scoop and shoved a whole ton of this pre-mixed low grade spicy tuna into an impossibly wide cone hand roll. If we were to eat this, we would have been chewing mouthful after mouthful of spicy tuna mix with nothing else in it. They were so ridiculously overpacked that just one would have been enough for a person to eat for a meal. Lastly we got the Washington Roll and it was ok, seriously lacking flavor, but was at least edible.
We ended up taking a bite of the thick slabs of yellow tail and albacore before tossing them, ate a few of the rolls because they were at least barely passable and in the end, dumped the giant scoops of spicy tuna from the hand rolls into bowls, added some brown rice and some of the edamame we also had ordered and created makeshift poke bowls. That's how much spicy tuna was packed into these hand rolls.
We ordered for the first delivery of the evening at 6pm so maybe we had a sushi chef in training but our sushi was surprisingly bad. I can only imagine this was the case given all the glowing reviews that...
Read moreNot from the area im from the San Fernando Valley, been here twice in three years. The prices are average but the fish cut size is great, its not like other places ive been to where its this same price But the cut is alot smaller. Really, ive been eating Sushii since the early nineties (when it wasn't trendy). Sushii rolls are just bout the same as other places to me anyways. When you visit, order small to get a feel for the price n size proportion. Too many places have been getting let by, by upping the price (i understand) but giving you less. The place isnt trendy, its small (not tiny), i would definitely come here more often if i lived in area. I also tried the place bout a mile away near mcdees n i definitely wouldn't return cause of the over price And the...
Read moreVery high quality. Larger portions than you may expect and very low prices compared to other sushi places in the area. What makes this place shine is the staff. It really feels like a home town, family-run restaurant. We love the wait staff and the chefs. Emma is an absolute sweetheart! The only drawback is that the bathroom is disconnected from the restaurant. You have to ask for the key and go outside and upstairs. It's a problem that the owners can't really fix so it is not something I can really blame the restaurant. It's an odd little quirk about it but it is still the best sushi...
