I was in Alamogordo for a surgical procedure when I overheard a conversation about Mexican restaurants; I asked what the favorites were and CJ's was at the top of everyone's list. The day after surgery my partner and I had lunch here. It was about 11:20 a.m. and I got the only empty parking space. The restaurant was pretty full and we could have had a table immediately but preferred a booth; we didn't have to wait but a minute or two to be seated. Our meals came with chips and salsa, and in addition to the red salsa was a sour cream style dip that I believe had green chilies in it. It was delicious and very rich. My partner ordered two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, and I ordered one chile relleno with rice and beans. We were offered a choice of red or green sauce, and we both chose green. We also got to choose from mild or hot; I ordered mine hot, and I liked it a lot as it was plenty spicy but not so hot as to ruin the taste of the food. Our server was friendly and courteous, and promptly refilled our drinks when necessary. The chile relleno that I had was probably the best I have tasted since moving to New Mexico several years ago. CJ's does not serve alcoholic beverages, but the quality of their food more than makes up for the lack of margaritas! One other thing I want to mention is that the ladies room at CJ's was impeccably clean and felt private because the stalls were separated by the wash basins, and they were pretty spacious compared to most bathroom stalls. Overall, delicious food and great prices. I will definitely be dining at CJ's again the next time I am in Alamogordo.

In my opinion this restaurant is more of a New Mexican restaurant. The white sauce they brought along with the red salsa with our chips is very reminiscent of the sauce they put in gyros back in Germany at a Turkish Gyro Shop. It’s good but felt out of place. The green chicken is an enchiladas weren’t rolled, just some flat corn tortillas with green sauce, shredded chicken and then cheese on top. The flavor was lacking, the rice was ok, didn’t really eat the beans. My kid ordered a bean and cheese burrito from the kids menu and the only cheese on the burrito was the one sprinkled on top of it, I’ve never seen that anywhere else. The green chile posole tasted exactly like green chile stew, very small portion though, especially for the price. They offer various soft drink options and a few beer selections, there is a two beer limit per customer. Service was just ok, we didn’t really get checked on but once. Prices are a little high, they do prefer you pay in cash. The restaurant has plenty of seating, clean bathrooms. They do offer orders to go. Honestly, I doubt I’ll eat here again.

Really enjoyed my visit overall, the staff was courteous and pleasant, facilities were clean and the food was served in a timely manner. I ordered the Si Senor Fiesta Combo that came with a bowl of Posole, Two Enchiladas, a Taco, Chile Relleno, rice, beans and a desert. The chips were very thick and hard and served with a white and red sauce. The posole was okay but had so much cummin it tasted like curry and overshadowed then hominy and masked the pork. The relleno was the best on my platter followed by the rice, beans and cheese enchilada. The beef taco tasted like every other ground beef taco made with preahredded cheese... nothing special. The chicken in the chicken enchilada lacked flavor and was my least favorite of all. Alamogordo should be ordained the Fast Food Capital of New Mexico with only a few restaurants like this trying to stand out. I applaud them for this and while my food was just okay to me, I'd rather spend my $$ here than any chain.

Went back and dined in for first time since the pandemic. Hate to say it, but I was a bit disappointed. Upon entering was a rather rude sign saying if you dont want to be charged for extra drink refills or things, then don't order them. You read that right. A 2.95 drink is limited to 1 refill. After that it'll be another $3. Sometimes 2 drinks are enough, sometimes you need more. Especially when it is hot outside like this time of year can be. Fortunately the iced tea allowed for more refills, and their tea is quite good. The main entre portion size seems smaller, at least on the smothered chimi, but thanks to a big breakfast, queso appetizer, and being thirsty, I was still pleasantly stuffed after eating. And even if the portions are a bit smaller, the flavors and heat are still there to enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. My wife did have an unexpected problem, but they took care of it appropriately. And our waiter was top notch, never had to wait much for anything, and he check on us frequently enough we often didn't need anything when he checked on is. Nicely done! Prices are now on the higher side though, just like everywhere else sadly.

Previous: 5 stars - Good food, a little different from the typical southwest style os Mexican food normally found in New Mexico but still quite tasty. Prices are midrange but can get pricey with extras...

I don't understand how this place has good reviews. I wish I could give them zero stars !. As a traveler, I always check the restaurants reviews and I was so excited to go to this place because of it. It is so sad that I had to leave because the staff made me feel unwelcome because of my service dog. First, I asked to the host if it was ok if I came in with my service dog, she said yes, but I had to keep her sit. She's a service dog! Of course she knows how to behave, but anyway, I understood. Then, when we come in, the lady in the front was staring at me and my dog, making me feel unwelcome and then when we where sited, the host where checking on me and my dog every two minutes, not to asked me if i wanted to order, just to check what we where doing with my dog! I felt so uncomfortable, my dog was just sitting next to me, as she always does, and when I tried to give my dog her snack, the host came right away to my table to tell me I couldn't feed my dog. I dont understand why in the first place they couldn't told me they didnt allow dogs, not even service dogs, we cpuld avoid this situation and go elsewhere. I ended up ordering the food for to go, and honestly the food was not even good for my taste. Total waste of money and time. Would never come back or recommended to my travel...
