Wow. Just wow. It’s my first time going to The Canterbury Kitchen. My girlfriend had been there for lunch several times and said she enjoyed it, but wasn’t really in the mood for that classic southern style menu which they serve at lunch. I showed her the menu and she was like, “Oh wow! Yeah, that’s totally different than their lunch menu.”
We came on a rainy, late afternoon and we had the place to ourselves, not normally the case apparently for the lunchtime crowd, but we found out they just started serving a dinner menu about 7 weeks ago.
Chef Chris was brought in to help launch the dinner menu and he is doing a spectacular job. He came to our table to see how we were enjoying everything and explained that the pasta, in both the pierogies and the chicken piccata, was handmade. He also explained that the produce was sourced locally. All of the attention to detail and love really came through in the end result. The service was also warm and friendly from our server, June. She’s a veteran that had solid suggestions and any question she didn’t have an answer for, she went to go find it.
This meal was an elevated experience. From the pepper jelly with the sour cream biscuits to chive crème on the pierogies, everything was so well thought out and expertly executed. For such a limited time doing dinner service, they are showing amazing promise of what I’m sure will be some superb...
Read moreIt was our first time eating at this restaurant. The decor and atmosphere was wonderful, it’s decorated with a lot of Mayberry RFD decor. We were greeted when we arrived, and told to sit wherever we like. The waitress was very friendly and helpful since this was our first time eating in this restaurant. The only problem we had with the service was we ordered fried green tomatoes to go along with our dine in meals, and they were put in with the carry out order we also placed. We brought this problem to the attention of the waitress and it was corrected in that they removed the fried green tomatoes from the carry out order and took that charge off of our ticket. We had three different dine in meals; hamburger steak, fried chicken, and beef tips. We watched the kitchen staff put the plates of food on the window counter between the kitchen and dining area, and the waitress promptly brought them to our table but most of the food was cold. I mean really cold like it had come out of the refrigerator and then barely warmed in a microwave. I think if the food had been served hot, we would not have been so disappointed in the taste. I’m a firm believer that everybody can have an off day so I’m giving it a 3 stars; and we will probably give this business...
Read moreI’m not one to usually leave bad reviews, everyone has an off day. But sadly this is not a place I will ever go back to. I have been dying to eat here for over a year. We finally got the chance today. The staff was not very welcoming, but I figured they were stressed & busy. We placed an order & 20 minutes later found out they don’t offer that item on Sundays, so we changed our order. After asking if they make the chicken fingers in house, 45 minutes later frozen chicken fingers arrive but we took them to go anyways. Get home, bite in & they are raw. Like raw chicken raw. We called, explained & asked if they could drop more in so by the time we got there they would be ready. They were frustrated with us, we never got an apology or anything & the rest of the meal was ice cold, the pork chop was so over cooked & hard it couldn’t be eaten. So $30 later, only one of...
