I’ve passed by this place several times and never knew it was there. Glad I found it. They seem to be known for their fish, but they have other great options on the menu. Ila was a great server, the restaurant & restrooms are clean. It seemed like it was bigger from the outside. No booth seating. The kitchen area is somewhat visible, which is fine. It looks like they have chefs that know what they’re doing back there. Parking spills over into Walgreens.
Calamari and fried tomatoes appetizers. 10/10 the batter was extremely delicious. The calamari was $14 and the green tomatoes were $11 which is not bad. Maybe they both could have been a couple dollars less. My guest say the old-fashioned drink was strong and made correctly.
The grouper and snapper blackened both 10/10. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well at $35 and $32 a plate with twosides. For quality fish fillet off the bone I’m not mad at that price.
The sides 10/10. Hush puppies crispy. Cheese grits have great flavor and texture. Coleslaw was crunchy cold and delicious. Sweet potato soufflé was delicious and unique, but pushed like a dessert which I had no complaints, lol it was great. Honey brussels sprouts were delicious also and cooked perfectly. The salad was simple-good fresh cold, lettuce with visible cucumbers, onions and tomatoes. That citrus vinaigrette was one of the best dressings I have ever tasted. I asked for extra to go. Thanks, Ila. The blueberry cake was beautiful, but was it a wild factor. For as good as it looked, I couldn’t taste any blueberry and if I was eating it with my eyes closed, I wouldn’t know what kind of cake it was. It’s too much icing and whipped cream substance and not enough cake for me. at $14, it could easily be more like an eight dollar slice because splitting that with my partner didn’t feel the value at that price. Even with the cake not being a wow for me, I didn’t see a need to drop a star. I was surprisingly still a bit hungry when I left which was odd because with tip we spent close to $155 easily for two people. The bill can go up fast with alcohol, desserts and appetizers. That corner to the left when you first walk in (converted patio) needs a little more light. This place food tastes five star to me and I would love to come back and try other things also. I recommend and would come back...
Read moreSolo diner, I sat at the bar. Nicki was great. I ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of Brussels. The brussels were nicely charred and well flavored. I don't typically even like hush puppies, but these were light and fluffy, fried but not greasy really well done. For the shrimp and grits, the grit cake was flavored nicely and the shrimp were perfectly cooked which can be hard for a kitchen to do correctly. Unfortunately, the gravy was super salty, not horrible enough to return the dish but right on the border. I spoke with both Nicki and the chef. Apparently this is a known issue with one of the line cooks. The chef said if I come back I should ask for him to make the dish. I appreciate the sentiment, but would suggest the better solution is to manage the real issue in the kitchen and if nothing else implement quality control on the dishes coming out of the kitchen. Another bigger issue, I had a gift card & I'd expected to be able to leave my tip using the card, unless the tip is added before the check is closed. I was lucky that I had some cash, but I always have concerns when an organization isn't making sure that their employees are top priority &...
Read moreThis was a very quaint intimate location… the ambiance was everything!!! I ordered the filet mignon dinner with honey glazed Brussel sprouts and creamed spinach. For appetizers… yes that word I used was plural… rockerfella oysters and crab cakes…(when my wonderful beautiful waitress Adrian repeated everything I wanted we both decide to take off 2 of the 4 selections I had previously ordered…) everything was magnificent everything was everything… the steak was prepared a perfect med well just the way I loooooovvvvveeeee it!!! The spinach um no words you have to experience for yourself… my mouth is watering right now just thinking about the spinach… I would say speechless but would the smacking noise the saliva making in my mouth count as speechless??? The blueberry lemon drop may have a little to do with that which was a perfect blend of sweetness and thwang!!! So most would ask at this point how many times a week will you be back… this place will definitely be in my weekly rotation while I’m here in Albany visiting… thanks for reading and please go partake...
