Have never eaten at the Central location. I have eaten at the Montgomery location 3 times now. The first time was within the first 3 weeks of their opening and it was exceptional. Service made you feel welcome and the food's flavor "burst" in my mouth. The second visit was several weeks later and the food's flavor was okay but didn't "wow" me like the first visit and the service was okay but not as good as my first visit. After several more weeks I thought maybe it was my imagination that the second visit wasn't as good so I tried a third time. Now I am certain the food wasn't as good as the first visit and the person taking orders and giving the first impression of the restaurant (Ryan) was rude and miserable! He obviously didn't want to be there that day and really made the overall experience terrible. I have to assume that cooks/chefs and some wait staff from the Central location (original location) were working at the Montgomery location the first several weeks and then went back to Central afterwards? It's offical, I'll never go back to the Montgomery location but if in the mood for Asian cuisine, I'll give the Nob Hill location a try but am not really not fond of the Nob Hill area/experience so I certainly won't frequent the Nob Hill location as often as I would have the Montgomery location. I'd say skip Montgomery and go to the Central location if you want the best food flavor and service. I'm hoping when I get over there the flavor of the food and service will be what I experienced on my first visit to Fan Tang...

Fantastic Dining Experience with Outstanding Service!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fan Tang on Montgomery and I can confidently say it was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a perfect balance of cozy and upscale.

What truly made our visit exceptional was the incredible service, especially from Owen. He went above and beyond to ensure our experience was flawless. From the moment he greeted us with a friendly smile to his thoughtful menu recommendations, Owen’s attention to detail and genuine hospitality were outstanding. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the dishes, helping us choose the perfect meal based on our preferences.

Owen checked in on us at just the right moments, making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. His kindness and professionalism truly elevated our experience, and we left feeling valued as customers.

If you’re looking for a restaurant that delivers both amazing food and impeccable service, Fan Tang is the place to go. Be sure to ask for Owen—he’ll make your visit even more memorable! We can’t wait...

Unique take on Asian cuisine!

Fan Tang may be a fast food restaurant, but the food is simply amazing! Great renditions of old favorites such as General Tso’s and Kung Pao but with a little something extra. My wife and I had lunch and we had our socks knocked off!

First off, the service is fabulous. We were taken care of by Owen, who is a treasure! He was able to explain our menu options and make suggestions. In addition to his dedication to service, he was very engaging and friendly. Don’t get me wrong, everyone who works there is very professional, but Owen is in the top ten!

It’s hard to explain how Fan Tang serves such a distinctive menu, but let me select one of the dishes we enjoyed, the Coffee Chicken. From the taste, there is obviously some coffee in the dish, but the other flavors meld so well in this dish, it transcended Asian food experience. Get the Coffee Chicken, you will not be disappointed!

Ordered takeout. Walked in, and the first person that laid eyes on me immediately stopped what he was doing to take my order. Upsold me some Nigiri while I waited for my food. Which I did not, because the order was ready, and hot comically fast. Having literally only taken the first shot of my sake, I had to try the food while I nursed the bottle. It paired perfectly, just like he (the young man with the edgar and the jesus piece) said it (general tang[egg noodle<w/scheuazan street sauce>], crab rangoons, bowl of egg drop soup) would. Polished it all off there, like I didnt have plans to go to. Too salty(as a whole[except the rangoons<that ginger sauce goes crazy>]), will return.

If it’s your first time eating here. You’ll walk in and at the register you can place your order then find a table. Or since it was our first time they handed us menus and we found a table to look everything over. Once we decided on what we wanted you’ll go back to the register to place your order. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and my wife ordered the Hong Kong Noodles with pork. We also ordered some chicken potstickers and a hot jasmine tea. The Pad Thai was okay, I didn’t care for it much but my wife dish was 10/10. I really enjoyed eating her half for lunch the next day. The potstickers were good as well. I’ll return to try some other dishes next time I’m in the area.
