Should definitely check out the Yelp reviews before going here as well. Otherwise mine is below.
Reading some of the recent reviews I was hesitant to come here, and definitely wish I had strayed away, as this is by far the worst place I have ever been to. Hoy Ping combination order for FOUR people and we were given 4 egg rolls, 4 fried shrimp, 4 tiny tinfoil wraps of "chicken wrapped in foil," 4 small bbq ribs, a container of egg flower "soup," and 1 container each of chow mein, "chicken" cashew, fried rice, sweet & sour pork. We ordered for four because we wanted leftovers for tomorrow. Feeding two people, who eat rather light, was barely a possibility. It's unfortunate that this also cost us $50. Should have stuck to our plans to go get crepes as that would have been cheaper and FAR better.
Posting photos to go with things as well so people aren't confused about what an "order for four" looks like.
I'll start with the almond duck. The almond duck that had an inch long pointed wood splinter inside of it. Very lovely to bite into. Should be renamed to fried breading with a hint of meat, topped with almonds and mandarin oranges. Duck, which is a very flavorful meat, could not be found inside this concoction.
You think I would have been smart enough to return the food after that and go somewhere else. Unfortunately I didn't.
Moving onto the egg roll, which generally you would assume is a pork egg roll, to find that the only thing inside it was cabbage. Nothing else. At all. Cabbage.
Cashew Chicken was almost entirely eggplant, some chicken, with a some amount of cashews. Eggplant was hardly cooked on top of it all.
Then the beef chow mein which, again, was almost entirely cabbage with the occasional piece of beef included. The fried noodles that went with it for "four" people was literally a snack bag you can fit a half a small sandwich in. Enough for maybe one person.
Fried rice had a few small pieces of egg and nothing else. No veggies in site. Just a hunk of brown rice. Not impressive to say the least.
Chicken wrapped in foil was a tiny, tiny piece of bbq chicken wrapped in foil. Expecting there to be an entire chicken breast, or since we ordered for four, two entire chicken breasts. Instead it may have been half a thigh in total.
The fried shrimp did taste good at least. Really hard to screw up battered shrimp, yet they only provided us with 4, for an order of 4 people. Generally when I go to a Chinese restaurant and "order" comes with three or four fried shrimp each. Not one.
The very minor upside is that the sweet and sour pork was actually decently made and the bbq ribs weren't bad.
All in all I wish I had went with my gut feeling of "this is hardly any food" and "this almond duck tastes horrible" and went back to the place, but unfortunately hunger got the best of me, and I'm still hungry even...
Read moreSpent $50 on family style dinner called Hoi Ping for 4. I have never been to any Chinese cuisine that slacked on portions for food, most would give you way more than you could eat. We received a small quantity for a dinner that's supposed to be ment for 4 people. Most of the food was filled with veggies (hardly any meat). The Chow mein that came with it, literally had only a small bag womans palm sized of the noodles. Most of the dishes were also bland. Maybe consisting of no other flavor than some salt. Even the egg rolls had no hint of meat in them, it was filled with cabbage. The bbq chicken was merely 4 tiny pieces of meat individually wrapped in tin foil, now when i say tiny, i mean i was expecting at least a whole breast (since its for 4 people) and adding the meat together wouldn't even equal that size. Each were maybe the size of a gatorade cap. the free Almond duck was basically deep fried breaded duck. There was so much breading, you could not taste the duck. The sauce was bland, and ours also came with a small piece of wood chip (maybe from a large bamboo spoon used to cook with?). The fried rice was mostly just rice and soy sauce with a hint of egg in it (and i mean i literally found no more than very few pieces of egg in it, there was no meat, no veggies like peas or carrots of that sort added). It was the most plain fried rice i've ever encountered. I highly encourage you to NOT come here. Americanized fast food chinese cuisine would be a better option for you....
Read moreWe had the Ho Lo Ma dinner for 4. The dinner is 16.95 per person we paid for 4 diners but we only got 3 servings of certain appetizers. The fried appetizers were fried to death. The chicken in foil and chicken wings were rubbery in spots and rock hard in others. The entrees were presented as described, however they smelled "off". The meat in the Mongolian beef had a sour, spoiled taste to it that I was able to notice right away. My husband though, is suffering from allergies and couldn't taste anything but after seeing 3 of us refuse to eat anything he became concerned as well. The chicken in 2 other dishes was rubbery, and the chicken in the General Tsao was practically cremated. My kids and I couldn't eat. We paid the $84 and left feeling queasy. On a side note there was also audible yelling and family conflict with the mother/daughter working and that left the daughter in tears and unable to be an attentive server. I felt bad for her which is partially why we didn't mention the funeral we had at the table and just chose to pay and leave it all behind.
update: 4 out of the 5 of us have had symptoms of food poisoning. My 10 month old has had explosive diarrhea that's happening even while she sleeps. My spouse was sick to his stomach about 6 hours after eating and affected horribly the following day and my self and 6yo are down for the count. The only one who didn't get sick is my 4yo who refused to touch any of the food. I should have trusted my gut when I saw...
