This restaurant used to be named Sushi & Sake on the east side but it moved to Nob Hill (a grittier but much trendier location) and is now called, simply, Korean BBQ House. I love their specialty rolls, of which they have many. In particular, I recommend trying the Orange Ball, Sushi Station, and Nob Hill roll. What makes this restaurant one of my local favorites is the fact that they have both great sushi rolls and Korean BBQ - and they do both well. The owner works her tail off every day and I have no idea how she knows so many recipies for such a broad variety of food. The decor is pretty authentic, which is the humble opinion of someone who lived in Los Angeles for most of his life and has had a lot of experience in all of the legendary Korean BBQ restaurants that defined the niche cuisine in its culinary mecca. The first time I walked in, I was impressed that this existed in ABQ. The city could do a better job with improving Nob Hill, but that has nothing to do with Korean BBQ House. I like this location for this restaurant, as it is an exciting addition to the variety of restaurants that make Nob Hill so fun. I know the owner cannot run this business alone forever, but until things change (I hope it remains a "home-cooked meal" type of restaurant for many years to come), I highly recommend you stop by and give it a try. Just be patient during peak hours. No one wants to work anymore, and I can tell the owner is doing her best. Every night she is in the kitchen cooking these delicious meals for us, and I for one am grateful for this gem of a restaurant...
Read moreI've eaten here before and got the beef fried rice. The food was great. The rice was cooked to perfection and the beef was cubed and of good quality. I was looking for a place to get lunch and as I passed by I turned around to place an order to go. I walked in and there was 5 staff members sitting at the entrance of the restaurant. At first I thought there was a wait or perhaps other people waiting for orders to go. I waited for a while as the 5 people sat and had a conversation. After a while I could over hear them talking about work and gossip about the customers throughout the day and then I realized they were employees. I asked if they were still open and they said yes, the hostess will be right with you. Waited a little longer and one of the five people stood up (which I assume was the hostess) and said they close in 5 minutes. So after waiting for 30 minutes in an empty restaurant I really wasn't willing to walk away without food. I told them I would be placing a to go order. Then the hostess repeated, "but we close in five minutes. If you would like we open again at five." At that point I just walked out accepting the fact that they were not willing to provide any service. I don't understand the point of having hours of service to pay multiple people to sit and talk. If they're going to have hours of service then provide service during that time frame. If they're not willing to provide service outside that time frame then shorten the time frame. A simple concept for any business. Two stars for the previous food quality. Three stars lost for...
Read moreHonestly the food is dry and sticky, and their customer service skills seriously lack. I wish I had as good an experience as every other review, but I didn't. Hopefully, this will help you to avoid my mistake and enjoy your food. Look below for the full review.
I was sorely disappointed by their service and communication. When I called I asked if it was an all you can eat restaurant, it was but they failed to mention the stipulations. When I arrived the waitress explained that you start with a first round and you can have anything and as much as you want but before you order the next round you must finish all on your plate, I told her that was easy for me, in which she responded "That's what they all say" and walked away. After finishing 5 rolls in my first round, she then said "ok, now what would you like for your final round?" She then explained that you only get 2 rounds. So you have to strategically determine what you want... I was so upset that when I explained the misunderstanding she blamed me, saying she explained herself well and it was on the menu, but if you read the menu you wil see it says "All you can eat in an hour" not in 2 rounds, she said it did not matter. I've been to 5 all you can eat sushi restaurants and never heard of a round limit. This defeats the purpose and does not allow you to enjoy the experience or the food, it just makes you focused on getting your money's worth and beating their snobby way of introducing thier "all you can eat". I was so irritated that I didn't order...
