I went here coming home from the airport with four hungry individuals. A basic taco has about three ingredients--one of which is cheese. If you are a taco shop that runs out of cheese you are doing something terribly wrong. This fact was not conveyed to us until after we had ordered all of our food (there was a language barrier with the cashier as well). This information should be prominently displayed on the door before you even enter. Next only part of our cheeseless food was delivered (no explanation from the clearly overwhelmed hipster server). I had to fight through a crowd at the counter to get my kids' rice and beans. I had to wait for rice to finish cooking (how many basic ingredients are there at a taco shop?) Then the staff could not understand they had to prepare just a side of beans and rice and continued to make other meals despite a fellow worker telling them repeatedly before specifically directing them to just put rice and beans in a side cup. Next, instead of sending someone to the store to buy some emergency cheese, I watched how the employees of District Taco (leaderless, not empowered, or not intelligent enough to solve a relatively simple problem) opted to just "go with it" and continue to swindle customer after customer with the cheese bait-and-switch. I am not sure why District Taco does not have anyone with any common sense or managerial skill working the Sunday night shift. I can only pray their food handling is done with some competence as fast casual dining requires a bare minimum amount of customer service and it was utterly atrocious. I will never...
Read moreNormally, I would not leave a bad review but I'm a little frustrated with the District Taco on Washington St. in Alexandria. In the past six months, I've ordered from there a couple of times and every time something is wrong with my order.
The first time, the left out my chips to go with the queso and salsa I ordered. When I called I was told "just come in anytime and give your name and we'll give you a bag..." (I didn't test this and was annoyed by the idea that they couldn't refund me instead).
The second time, the integration with the delivery service didn't work and no one picked up my food. When I called the restaurant they didn't seem to care much about it and I had to ask to have my food remade after it sat for nearly 45 minutes waiting to be picked up. I decided to walk the mile in the rain to get it myself.
And now, today..once again, an error with the delivery service integration was messed up and my address was input incorrectly, sending my driver to a different location entirely.
To top all this off when you call, the store doesn't seem to have the authority to remedy the situation and you have to call back to talk to a manager to get anything accomplished.
I understand we're under new pressures and stress but every time I order to-go they mess up an order? Its so frustrating and they don't seem to be bothered.
I love their tacos and orders in-store are great but their takeout...
Read moreA New York transplant, I had heard coworkers talk about District Taco, so I decided to stop in on my way home from work in DC. I used "Alexa" on my car's stereo to find the phone number and called in an order. A young woman answered and told me to order online. Because I was driving, I told her I didn't have access to the menu but that I wanted to order a Carnitas bowl. She proceeded to take my order, including all toppings, but never took my name or number. I figured I'd just tell them what I had ordered with her when I arrived and they'd have it there.
When I got to the store, I told them I had ordered on the phone and the two men at the front counter looked at me quizzically. They told me they had no phone orders and asked the four women standing behind them on the food line who had taken the order and none answered up. They asked me if I had, indeed, called this store...I checked my recent calls against the Google listing for the store that I was standing in and sure enough, they matched.
So I finally just asked to place a new order and the men gladly took it. The food was good but why was the Carnitas ashen gray?? Like, no color. Def something I've never seen before 😳
It wasn't a terrible experience or terrible food but in the future if I'm hungry for Mexican, I'll just order ahead at Los Tios on Van Dorn-who don't mind taking phone orders from customers like the...
