Main Dish & More — Restaurant in Alexandria

I went to the Main Dish for the first time yesterday. I say this with no exaggeration; this place shocked me with how good it was. Not to be too much of an Alexandria-basher...but this town is severely lacking in good food options. So I was really suprised to come across what is possibly the best philly cheesesteak I've ever had - that includes the originators in Philadelphia.

The meat on the sandwich was flavorful and tender, and was chopped and cooked to perfection. The cheese was tasty and generously applied, and it melted and blended perfectly into the mayo (as it should in my ideal cheesesteak). The bread was fantastic, as well. My only complaint honestly is that they aren't ever open for dinner or on the weekends (lunch only, M-F).

I will definitely be back. I'm actually disappointed in myself that I never visited their other location, because clearly I was missing out on one of the best meals available...

We stopped at lunch time. The place was doing quite well. With that many customers, they must be doing something right. We ordered a grilled chicken salad, shrimp po-boy, and the hickory burger. The shrimp in the po-boy was very nicely cooked and seasoned. The burger had great flavor and was juicy. The grilled chicken salad had a lemon vinaigrette that was absolutely delicious. The vibe was good as well as the service. They have individual serve cookies for sale, but I’d have to say that with those prices for those cookies, it’s almost is if they are paying me to eat them. They also have full meals made to take home and heat in the oven. This place is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for...

There are quite a few qualities that I feel all consumers take in to account when evaluating any business. Things such as quality of service, consistency in product and value are 3 that hit the top of most lists. Based on my experiences, I can say that Phil and Helena have met and exceeded those expectations and more. From the dine in experience to the meals prepared for the home, We have never been disappointed!
