I got the Maki Roll Lunch special which came with a salmon roll, spicy tuna, and California roll. Fish was fresh, food came out fast. The issue was that the rice was not sushi rice (usually flavored with sugar, mirin, etc;) but just plain white jasmine rice that was a little bit too dry to be used for sushi. The ratio of fish to rice is also not great, too much rice. The rolls were also cut into uneven pieces, with some too thick. Honestly I picked off all the rice and just ate the inside of the rolls.
The service was good, food came fast. Large portions. It’s clean inside. I would probably just order sashimi next time.

I suppose I may have been spoiled when I visited Trappers in San Antonio Texas and ordered the same. Everything had such a different taste at Trappers. At Red river the pieces were cut pretty neat and everything well presented however the taste was more fishy than I previously had. I Expected a hint of fishyness but not to the point I experienced. Read moreI want to give this place another opportunity to be impressive. But I think they’ve got an uphill climb to get there. The sushi is wonderful. However the lunch special was mediocre, and boxy at best. Oddest things are the raisins in the Cole-slaw (I thought only northerners did that), the clash of sports bar table cards and Bro-Country on the radio, and the Oriental decor and menu items. I believe this place has a touch of split personality - and it could pull it off IF the food is Outstanding....
