I’ve lived close by to the Texan BBQ for 4+ years. When I first moved in 4+ years ago, we patronized the place often. You also always used to smell the BBQ.
However, we finally stopped going in there. It became obvious liquid smoke was being used. At $20+ a plate, I expect authentic barbecue.
The quality of ingredients has gone down too. The Sysco truck comes weekly, so that can give you an idea of the quality. Everything is doused in a vinegar-heavy “BBQ” sauce to mask the liquid smoke and lower quality meat.
It’s unfortunate as we like to patronize local business. However, the last few visits they stared at me the entire time from the second I walked in - until I left. I have a physical disability. The last time I decided I was done with it. Their attitude is also not worth $20+ a plate. It makes me very uncomfortable.
Therefore, I spend my money where I don’t feel like I’m not welcome or wanted. Plenty of people have prosthetic legs. There’s no reason to stare me down when I’m patronizing your business. This problem stems from the top down.
They’re living off their name and past legacy. Furthermore, there is very few offerings for true BBQ around. People will settle for food-service grade cafeteria food and not blink paying $20. It is very perplexing.
Return to quality meat, actually smoking the meat, buns, sides, etc. Everything tastes like it came off the Sysco truck- because it did. I watch them deliver. The only exception is likely that vinegar heavy sauce they think is “BBQ sauce”. There’s no way any reputable company would produce something that foul.
It is not worth the price charged whatsoever. However, this is my personal opinion so your mileage may vary. I’d love to see them get back to creating...
Read moreI have eaten at this restaurant once before and was pleased with both the food and the service. My last experience, however, changed my opinion. Ordered a pickup order on Father's Day and we're told to pick it up in roughly 55 minutes. When we got there we were told that someone had left earlier in the day in the middle of their shift and that they were backed up. We then waited an additional hour for our food. During this time we were consistently told 5 or 10 minutes and it will be up. I even specifically asked one time of the items were ready and being assembled which was untrue and we waited another 15 - 20 minutes. This was problematic in general but worse when you consider that we had guests who had driven over an hour to be with family on this day and my father is 87 and let's face it every event counts. There was no attempt to make any restitution for the weight, inconvenience or otherwise. The management / ownership MIA and never engaged us. Instead they passed messages using the young staff that they had who are ill equipped to manage the backlog. While the food was good I will never order from this restaurant again nor will I provide them my patronage. It's not about the things went wrong it's about that there was absolutely no effort to make them right and that's just...
Read moreNot sure why people are giving this place high ratings, everything they serve is pre-packaged or frozen. I've gone here twice and will not go again. The first time I got the ribs and they were ok... pork and beans and coleslaw were from a can. Second visit I ordered the prime rib and what I got was Italian beef meat on a burger bun, definitely not worth the money I paid for it and it definitely was NOT prime rib!! This place is a pit all right, but its more of a garbage pit... the plates are dirty, the salt shaker at my table was sticky with ketchup, they don't even wipe the tables down. I wouldn't be surprised if people got salmonella from the food here based on how dirty the place was. Its not hard to cook meat (pork, ribs, etc.) and throw sauce on it to make it taste ok, but this place is nothing special and the people raving about the food are probably used to eating at McDonalds and not at a real smoke pit. My wife and kids food was also mediocre at best and I was just glad that none of us got sick.. I think this place will be on Restaurant Impossible sometime in the future and we will all be surprised when we see what the...
