Back 2 Barney’s — Restaurant in Aliquippa

We came here one Thursday evening for a late dinner, sat at the bar even though there was immediate table seating at this time. We got served our soft drinks quickly and also put in for one appetizer as well as 2 meals (a burger and a chicken salad with no fries). The appetizer took almost an hour to come, then some time after that the burger came. Later, in passing, when noticing his burger was nearly gone but there was no food in front of me, a bartender told me that they had accidentally made the wrong salad - she said they were remaking and not charging me for it. About 30 minutes later, a chicken salad arrived and I picked out the fries (asked for none) as well as all the chicken as it was pink and not at all cooked in the middle. It was also hard to get acknowledged when needing a refill, etc. During a large chunk of this meal time, there was an older lady standing against a wall - I presumed she was an owner keeping an eye on things until I eventually saw someone hand her a takeout bag and apologize for the wait. We were not charged for the salad however I did have to stop somewhere on the way home to get something else to eat. I am very much hoping this was just an “off” day for all because I was so excited to have something new so close to home :( Better service and workflow could really make this place dynamite - it is such a cool building and they’ve got customers...

I thought it would be a great to take my son who just returned from the Navy after several years (just drove 2600 miles from his base in Washington state to Hopewell), to dinner. I thought your restaurant would be a good place to take him as he departs for Guam in a few days and I will not see him for another few years.

As much as the facility has been upgraded, etc. The service staff still needs some training in basic customer service, and restaurant etiquette.

My son had ordered a medium rare steak, which came out well done. I had ordered a chicken salad which was fine although for the price, I’ve had much more protein in the salad for the price at other local establishments.

It didn’t appear to be much interest in checking up on our table from the time the food was delivered to the time that the server came back to take our plates and provide us with the check. My son had explained to the server that his steak was not prepared correctly, and there was absolutely no reaction nor any attempt to rectify the situation at all. We were just presented with the bill and there was no attempt to deduct the steak (which was not eaten) from the tab.

I had asked for a paper receipt, but the server never returned as we waited about 15 minutes.

Our first time. It was a hot, humid night around 9 pm on Wed in June. The place was busy and the inside was full. So we had the option to eat at the bar that was smokey or outside in the heat. Note the wooden seats are hard. In the future we would choose to either sit inside or any seat outside that is not made from 2 by 4's. Once we were seated, we met our server after 5 minutes. We ordered drinks and two smash burgers with fries. The smash burgers were excellent except thin on beef. We ordered a single and a double. I would order a double and a triple in the future. Now the fries were not great - just too much seasoning. Our server said we can order them without seasoning - next time. So I would recommend the double smash burgers with unseasoned fries. Overall it was a good dinner, just not great. However the price was great - three drinks, two burgers, 25% tip for $40. We will try it again.

Second visit. We stopped by at 5 pm on a Thursday. Service was excellent and now the wooden benches have cushions. This time we ordered a double and a triple both with unseasoned fries. It was a great burger and fries day. Plus the margaritas and beer were excellent. All ratings moved higher. Looking forward to...
