Food was fine. Everything was cooked well and served with attention. The location is obviously a local favorite, which is heartening to see. The meat selections were prepared to perfection. The roast beef, fried chicken, and fried fish were each well seasoned, fully cooked without being overcooked, and a nice treat. The side items were mostly pretty standard for a buffet. The rice pudding was a bit drier than I like and didn't have much for raisins or other additions, though the rice was of a decent texture and flavor was good. Small dining space can get quite loud with all of the open conversations.

This is a nice restaurant. This buffet has plenty of food & a big selection. It is definitely home cooked food & very delicious. Everything on my plate tasted great. The servers were friendly & attentive. My fellow patrons were awesome with good conversation. We drove from Lynchburg to Altavista (20 minutes + drive), and it is worth it. We'll be back!

Home cooked style food. fried chicken, fried fish and other meat option like meatloaf, pot roast. Sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, mac n cheese, collard greens/ cabbage, corn and a salad bar. They have also added a breakfast buffet. Dine in or to go!

I have always wanted to try the Main Street Buffet and today I did. If you want the freshest food you can get it appears that you should go on a Sunday at lunch time. During the week it seems slower and I am not sure about the service then. We were greeted right away and allowed to pick our seat. It was very busy and everyone working stayed on top of things and made you feel right at home. Salad bar, several meal options and an assortment of sides and desserts. Everything is home cooked and delicious. They were constantly bringing out fresh baskets of fried chicken and catfish, items were so hot and fresh you had to wait for them to cool to eat. The building is old fashioned and unique from the vintage sign out front to the bar stools inside. Although old and worn from years of use, I hope it never changes. A great small town place that has everything you could ask for! It is going to be a regular spot for me...

I have ate there a number of times for all 3 meals..And I enjoyed it..The food was good and the people were friendly and polite..I had no complaints at all..I think it's great that it's ran by a family and they all work together..And to the ones that had or will have bad reviews Altavista is a small town and we have had stores and restaurants closing here since the Covid..We are very lucky to have "Main Street Buffet"...So if you are looking for a high end place to eat maybe you should go to Lyñchburg or Danville... KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP MAIN...
