If there is one thing Amarillo has a lot of, it is Tex-Mex restaurants. If you like this style of food, you won’t starve here. The only issue is that many of them are so similar as to be nearly indistinguishable. It’s almost as if they could have a stock menu shared between them, the only difference being the name on it. And yet I like Jorge’s about the most of the many similar competitors here. While the offerings are certainly not all that different or unique, I can always count on Jorge’s to serve a fine dish of Tex-Mex standards. Consistency is the key here. On the night I last visited, I found myself in search of a late dinner. This was late enough that kitchens start shutting down, yet Jorge’s was still very much open and willing to serve. I ordered veggie fajitas which I did not find on the menu, but my server was happy to accommodate. The service was lightning fast and friendly. It’s hard for basic Tex-Mex establishments to distinguish themselves in food, because it all begins to look the same. But consistent quality and excellent service push Jorge’s to the top of my list when considering this style of food.

I met up with coworkers here on a Friday afternoon. I wasn't in the mood for alcohol but I did order food. I got the carne caliente and asked for two fried eggs on it, but the kitchen didn't add the eggs. I did beans and potatoes as the sides. The corn tortillas are the plain ones you can get at the grocery store, slightly heated. The carne had a good flavor, but I couldn't quite decide if I liked the sauce. It seemed like a hot sauce mixed with enchilada sauce. The eggs would've elevated the dish. Service was great considering there were about 15 of us and one server took care of the table in the bar area. I don't usually get to this side of town so it's been a while since I was at Jorge's. When I left around 7 on a Friday there were about 6 groups waiting for a seat. Food is a bit pricey but not out of line for current standards, I paid $20 before tip. I would go back.

My fiancé and I ate out here for a celebration Saturday night. The wait to be seated especially for a dinner rush was very short. Barely was there for 5 to 10 minutes and was seated. We started with some good chips, salsa with a cup of queso. For dinner I had the Shrimp Cancun (which is a new menu item so definitely try it) and Fajita Enchilada. The food was really delicious. This is second time I’ve tried the Cancun except this time I tried the shrimp instead I fb the chicken. It’s a very big portion so don’t feel bad if you don’t eat all of it. I definitely recommend coming to Jorge’s and definitely recommend the food with a good beer on a Saturday night with a lot of the football games happening at once. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating.

DO NOT RECOMMEND Update:

Still no contact from the owner(s). I'm at over 2Million for my reviews. What a disgusting way to treat long time customers who used to pack their guest room with family. Again, I don't recommend this place. Avoid it at all cost and head to Pepito's!! Better food, better service, better owner! They care about their customers unlike this place.

Original: I have over a million, almost 2M reviews on Google. I literally get paid to review places and people there. Here's my review of Jorges Mexican Bar & Grill , Amarillo, Texas

I was here today to celebrate my daughter's senior year lunch.

Our sever "Alex" was rude all through the meal. She failed to bring requested items and treated us like a problem from the start. In the end she didn't bother asking us if we wanted anything else, and placed the receipt in on the table. I explained to her I was waiting on the items requested listed below, and told the kids we wouldn't be getting dessert because we had the check already. I picked up the receipt, and moved it away from the place she set it and to a place close to my personal self getting ready to finish my meal and pay. Even though we weren't even half done eating. Alex reached around me, and snatched the receipt from under a bowl I was eating out of. I stood up, in shock, and told her not to do that again. She literally reached around my physical person crumpled up the check and handed it back to me. Extremely rude of her to reach around ppl and crumple up the receipt I already reviewed.

Alex did not refill drinks, offer napkins, or bring plates with the appetizer. No to go boxes offered. Just horribly rude compared to what Jorges is known for.

She completely ruined our celebration with her bad attitude and poor service.

The manager Fernando was unreasonable, escalated, and did not make a reasonable choice in this deal. He literally just said leave without even talking to me about Alex's behavior.

The other woman Martha that met us on the way out did listen but just said she would "check the cameras". I asked her if the crumpled receipt was how they did business. She said "no" and looked disgusted.

The staff called me a liar and made this a bigger issue than it needed to be. Fernando even tried to argue with a child. Just disgusting behavior all the way around.

I do not recommend this establishment any longer as the staff has become extremely rude.

They would rather customers leave than solve the issues their employees have. I asked for the owner but was told he was out for the day.

I predict Alex won't last long anywhere with her behavior. The longer they enable it the more this establishment will dwindle.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

On labor day we went to Gorges restaurant on Bell St amarillo TX and we ordered a beef molcajete minutes later we received a chicken molcajete we had asked for a full beef plate with no chicken. Moments later we received a visit from the manager of the place and he said “Do you have a question?” I was confused and I realized it was because of the beef/chicken mix up. He had asked if I had a question instead of “Hello Mr Customer my name is _ I am the manager of this restaurant and I understand we have a confusion but I am very sorry for that poor presentation of our establishment.”

I explained the situation and then he said that “there was nothing we can do and that we cannot change the menu.” In other words he was saying “ I know you do not like chicken but now you have to have it and then pay for it, I do not care” If I had a restaurant of this level I would have never accepted a manager with this low level customer service skills and no talent to mediate misunderstandings. Instead I would hire somebody with charisma and a smile and ability to put yourself in the shoes of the customer and be able to problem solve not just say “there is nothing we can do.” A better display of actual good management training would be “I am sorry we had a misunderstanding but the policies of this restaurant do not allow me to change the menu but can I help you with another dish that contains the meat of your preference” Or possibly this

“ The policies of this restaurant said not to change the menu. But for the present lack of good communication between you and the server I am going to make an exception and give you the all beef, but the plate will be more expensive is that all right?”

That would have been perfect and a lot better than “THERE’S...

Me and my husband visited this restaurant and we were highly disappointed. Our waiter was a kind young man but made several mistakes which all added up to make a huge mess of an experience. First, he brought us the wrong drink, and then we ordered a plate that included both chicken and beef. We kindly asked that the plate be full beef instead. The waiter agreed and later brought us tortillas a whole half hour before our food arrived which was a bad timing decision, due to the tortillas getting cold and stale by that point. Our plate once then arrived and behold it was full chicken instead of full beef. We explained to the waiter what the mistake was and he apologized and took it back. He then brought back news that he could not make any slight changes in the menu. (We have ordered this same plate many times before). We expressed our understatement of the situation and then our main problem arrived. The manager came up to our table and asked if we had a question. He never even bothered to introduce himself or apologize for the inconvenience. He did not show any sort of care or compassion for helping a customer. He simply told us that he cannot do anything and left. There was absolutely no customer service skills present with this manager. He did nothing to resolve our issue and didn't even bother to give us alternative options. We understood why they could not make any sort of changes due to beef being more expensive than chicken, but we would have been happy to pay extra. The manager held zero problem solving skills, I could name a dozen solutions that would have solved our problem. We were appalled by such behavior from a manager. We both love this restaurant, but will never be returning due to this...
