Many years have passed since I was last in this building. Back then it was known as Barnaby’s Beanry, a longtime Route 66 staple for travelers and locals alike. I almost did not recognize it under the Little Laos marque, but given the quality of food we enjoyed last night, I dare say I will be coming a lot more familiar with it.
Oh, and the remodel is gorgeous. From somewhat dumpy old diner to sleek Asian bistro, it is as delicious as the food.
It’s good to have a ringside seat here as the dining options along the Mother Road continue to evolve with the next generation of business owners. In Amarillo alone the number of Asian eateries along 66 is staggering. Little Laos offers a delightful blend of southeast Asian cuisine, primarily Lao and Thai, but some Vietnamese stirred in for good measure.
My Oldest Daughter went with the Pho with beef and sausage, while I ordered Green Curry with vegetables. I quaffed a Chang beer from Thailand to further authenticate the experience. Her Pho arrived within 10 minutes in a massive bowl of broth, rice noodles, and meat. I could tell straight off this was far more than she could consume at once, and I was right. She found it to be among the best Pho she has ever had.
My Green Curry had just the right amount of heat (temperature as well as spice) for my liking, and in only a few minutes I noticed I was sweating a bit and dabbing my nose. That’s the way it should be.
Overall, this is a two-thumbs-up dining option. My only suggestion is to offer tofu for those who get their protein from plant-based sources. Most Asian places already do this, and you might be surprised how many grazers there are out here in cattle country.

Read moreI have to rave about this place for a moment—my fiancée and I went here for lunch today, and it was so wonderful. You seat yourself, which is super convenient, and from the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly kind, accommodating, and helpful.
I didn’t get a photo of my pad Thai, but trust me—it was phenomenal. My fiancée ordered Bo’s special, and even though I usually don’t like ribeye, it was so tender and flavorful that I might be a ribeye fan now (seriously, it was that good!).
The dessert was something truly special. The combination of flavors and textures was perfect—sweet, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The mango? Hands down the best I’ve ever had in my life.
The place itself is absolutely adorable, and the atmosphere is so warm. Bo himself, who I believe was the owner walked around checking in with guests to see how everything tasted—he was so kind and genuine. It’s clear they really care about both flavor and presentation here.
Prices felt more than fair considering the quality and attention to detail. I loved everything about our experience and will 100% be coming back. 5/5,...
Read moreI would return to Amarillo just to eat at Little Laos, that’s how incredible it is. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the food is hands down the most delicious Thai cuisine I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot, considering we’ve tried Thai restaurants in several major cities. Little Laos truly takes the crown. 👑
If you’re passing through Amarillo, don’t miss it! You must try the fried quail, it’s absolutely heavenly and a hit with little ones too. The Angel Wing lives up to its name, it’s truly a gift from heaven.
For your main course, if you enjoy a little heat, I highly recommend the Pad Kra Pao with a fried egg, it’s bursting with flavor. And to top it all off, my favorite dessert in the entire universe: Little Laos’ mango sticky rice....
