Whataburger — Restaurant in Amarillo

I used the Whataburger App for the first time to place my order at 6am because I was tired of breakfast food and wanted a green Chile double to start my day. The app is convenient because you can customize every detail of your order and reduce misunderstandings with the clerk. I live like 2 minutes away so I felt a little silly ordering on the app but I also didn't want to be late to work so it was nice to just walk in and walk out with literally 0 wait time. And my food was super fresh because I doubt too many burgers are being ordered that early.

Reasons for my star ranks: 5 of 5 for the food. Best green Chile double I've ever had, and trust me I've had many. The fries were fire too, I'm not sure if the 45th & Western location does something different, but their fries are better than any other location I've been to in Amarillo. I have the clerk 4 out of 5 because they weren't awake yet or something but I wasn't greeted or anything and I had to tell them I was there to pick up my online order. I also had to ask for spicy ketchup as I was not offered any, but it really wasn't that big of a problem. Like I said, I think they were just starting their shift or just about to end it, and not in the zone. I get it. 3 of 5 for atmosphere simply because I personally don't like the location of the store. That isn't any fault of Whataburger or designers or planners. I simply dislike the small size of the interior and I don't like sitting right next to busy roads while I eat. I never dine in at the location for that reason, so my rating is biased by personal preferences. I can say that any time I do go in to order it pick up, it's always clean. No sticky floors, no funky fast food place odors, clean counters, tables and doors no matter what time of day I've been in there. Used to do Door Dash, was in there frequently. It's a nice place honestly, I'm just claustrophobic and it's a smaller store. That's my problem, not theirs.

All in all, for the price you can't go wrong with Whataburger. In fact I may go get some in a little bit. My long book of a review is...

Ordered some chicken strips and gravy around 11pm on 8-28-25 through the drive through. Was greeted by a pleasant, polite male voice that took my order promptly and correctly. Got to the window, was greeted by a young woman who told me: "By the way, he put his tip on your card." She pointed to a man with a headset, apparently the man with the smooth voice that took my order. I assumed it was a joke. I told him: "You have a voice for radio, I could listen to you all day!" He smiled and gleefly replied: "None of those Whities down there at that cracker ass radio station want me, it's my caramel complexion baby! They can't stand a brother be better than Whitey!" I sat there, and tried not to show my shock and complete disgust. I am, in fact white. I replied after a long awkward silence: "When will people learn that skin color means nothing?" The young lady and the man shut the window laughing. 20 minutes later, I received my food. It was tossed at me, and the window slammed shut as I said "thank you." Half of my meal wasn't there. He was right. Whitey will never be returning to this restaurant. The blatant racial slurs, erratic and deranged delivery of them, and the passive aggressive tone was the most unprofessional thing I've ever witnessed at a restaurant. I have been a regular of this whataburger since I moved near by & let me tell you the last past 2-3months the overnight shift has gone completely downhill. I used to get friendly service at the speaker, hot fresh food in a reasonable amount of time depending how late it was & how many ppl are in line but lately the crew members seem like it’s a bother taking your order, then you get to the window and the young lady with glasses (I later found out her name is Daisy because I asked another crew member there) smacked her lips & rolled her eyes at me because I told her my ranch wasn’t in the bag (the ranch that I so happened to pay for!) I told her thank you & she just very rudely slammed the window in my face. then not to mention my order was wrong, I asked for no tomatoes, no onions, both were on there. just so disappointed this used to be my favorite WB. idk what has happened in the last few months but they need to get it together, it has NEVER been this bad. now I skip this Whataburger when I’m driving...
