Macubana — Restaurant in Ames

Food: Great 5/5 We had the Midnight Monster ($11.50) and Original Macu-Bowl ($12.00). Both were great the Original Macu-Bowl is very rich and filling and the Midnight Monster (essentially a grilled cheese with Mac and cheese in it) is amazing. The tomato bisque goes perfectly with the sandwich. If I had to choose one over the other I would choose the Midnight Monster.

Service: Fair 3/5 We had a server that was meh at best. She was rude when we asked if we could have our waters refilled and after waiting 10 min for her to bring the check back I went up to the front to see if we were supposed to pay up there. When I got up there to ask she was rude again and told me to sit back down as she would get it to us.

Note: Check your receipt and compare it to what you actually get charged by your bank. The amount that showed up on my bank statement did not match what mad sense for the food we had + tip and Tax. We went back and asked for a receipt which they gave us and the two amounts did not match. The receipt said 29.68 with Tax and Tip while we were actually charged 32.19. The mac and cheese tasted like nothing and was incredibly greasy. One of the appetizers is listed as "Empanadas" but in reality you only get one, so it would be such an easy fix to get rid of the "s" as to not mislead customers wishing to share an appetizer. We got lucky that there was only two of us so we could cut it in half. On top of that, it was incredibly bland. The poutine was okay. But nothing is worth the price on the menu. It would be less disappointing if the prices weren't so high.

Additionally (and this is a less big deal than what I listed above but thought it was worth mentioning), they allowed a non-service puppy that clearly belonged to an employee into the establishment. The puppy then ran around the resturant when, seemingly, the employee lost control of it. While I love dogs, they do not belong in a resturant unless it is meant to be a...

Came for a drink with friends, left embarrassed and pissed. Will not be back, the bartender was rude and unprofessional as hell and ruined the experience for me to the point I will never be back due to how embarrassed he made me. For context, walked in, waited 10 minutes for a server (met my friends there who already got their drinks). No big deal, friend offers me a sip of her drink to try, bartender immediately LITERALLY screams at me grok across the room to ”DONT TAKE ANY SIPS FROM THAT DRINK UNTIL YOU SHOW ME YOUR ID!” Now I totally get that, I’m 28 and look young 😌 but why did you scream at me from across the bar when you saw me walk in?
