D'Leons Taco Rico — Restaurant in Ames

This place is great! I ordered two of the 5 for $5 taco Tuesday deals, one chicken, and one beef. The tacos were good! The shells were perfect, the toppings were good, and there were generous portions of well-seasoned meat. The spicy orange sauce was very good, and I quite liked the mild green sauce as well. The restaurant is clean, and it looks like they did a good job on the remodel. I look forward to eating here regularly and trying something from their all-day breakfast menu.

Edit: I've eaten here again, and I've decided to adjust my review from 5 stars to 4 stars. I had a carnitas burrito combo today, and the burrito was not great. The meat was extremely fatty and tough, and there was way too much of it. I did like the burrito filling, so the burrito was still passable. The rice and beans were just fine, nothing stands out about them to me. I will eat here again, but I won't be ordering the carnitas burrito again.

Final word: Good, not great and not...

I have been there a couple times now and the food is generally pretty good. However this last time I went they messed up my order and over charged me by 80%!!! and then acted like I was being a problem when I wanted the charge to be corrected to what it should’ve been. Food is decent but the way they treated me was completely disappointing. Being a newer restaurant in the area you figured they would want to make a good impression but that is clearly not the case. Just found out about this place when we stopped for gas the other day. We had 2 of the $0.99 chicken hard shell tacos. They were very good. It tasted authentic and the shell tasted like they were made in house.

I knocked a star off for service just because the person working the counter wasn't very friendly. By not friendly, I mean she acted like she really didn't want to be here and taking my order was an imposition. Maybe she was just having a bad day or needed a 🌮...
