Perfect for a quick fix!
I do love supporting small businesses, which is why I chose to come here instead of frequenting the Ralph's grocery store next door for some donuts. You can definitely tell that these goods are made fresh daily as there is a very limited selection of donuts available here. I assume that throughout the day, the selection becomes much smaller (unless they constantly make more during business hours). Unlike several other donut shops I have been to, KD's does not feature any specialty donuts. Rather, it is a simple shop with your basic donuts. It makes for a quick fix but nothing more.
There are no signs inside the store that display the cost of donuts, beverages, and other goods on sale. While I did not find this rather odd for a small business, I did find it a little inconvenient. I recommend putting up signage with a list of items on sale so that if a customer is interested in something other than donuts (like milk, tea, coffee, etc.) they have an idea of how much it will cost. When I did ask the owner/cashier how much the donuts were, she simply said, "It depends on the one that you want." Not exactly helpful...
The donuts I purchased were: Bavarian cream-filled donut: very well filled! Some places only lightly fill their donuts and I found this one to be filled rather completely. I assume this costs more than $1. Chocolate glazed donut ring: light and airy, just my favorite type! Probably costs at or below $1. Chocolate donut with chocolate glaze: bready kind of donut, very small, and certainly not airy. I'm not a fan of these kinds but my boyfriend swears by them and thinks they're pretty good. Chocolate donut with chocolate glaze and sprinkles: another bready donut, as per bf's request. Decent! Dozen donut holes: very light, airy, and glazed to perfection. This costs $1.80.
Overall, I paid $6.50 and the owner/cashier was kind enough to add 2 donuts to my order for free! They were the bready kind of donuts I didn't like, but I did appreciate the kind gesture. So thank you again for the coconut and brown sugar glazed donuts!
If you're looking for a donut shop with a bit more flair, KD's is not the one. But if you're looking to grab a bear claw, a dozen variety donuts for work, or what have you, then this should get the job done.
(As an added note, the other customers seemed to be regulars of the place, which to me is a good sign altogether so it's worth...
Read moreI would give this donut shop a 0/5 stars if I could. I have never written a poor review before, but this was by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced that I had to share. This was my husband and I's first time at KD's donuts and from the minute we walked in, we were met by the woman behind the counter with a terrible attitude&hostile-filled spirit. She made several jabs toward my husband and I for no reason. Just one example was there were 12 donut holes left in the case when we arrived. My husband and I purchased 6 while another couple purchased the last 6 shortly after us. A few minutes later, another customer (an elderly woman) came in and said to the owner "oh you are already all out of donut holes?" while the woman/owner proceeded to reply back- in a bitter tone- with "you can blame them" and looked toward my husband and I... I don't understand why our purchase of six donut holes is to blame for them selling out & I found it extremely unprofessional of a response from her to blame their empty donut case on another customer. I have never been met with such temper and impoliteness at any restaurant before - and I have lived in California my entire life. I would not recommend this donut shop to anyone because of the rude customer service and inappropriate comments/jabs at customers. Not to mention their donuts are overpriced. The owner even charged us for donuts we did not ask for. A very poor experience that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Don't waste your time nor money going to KD's donuts as there are plenty of other donut shops around that I'm sure will greet you with much better...
Read moreI live very close by and take my kids here often. Two times ago I went and the owner was ranting about how rude people are if they go to restaurant to get a donut and not her shop. This past weekend I went again and ask for the same thing every time. Donut wholes for my kids and a blueberry muffin. After I ran into the grocery store to get a couple fo things and when I got back in the car, I realized she gave me a blueberry donut instead of a muffin. Since I was close by, I ran back in and mentioned that I was given the wrong thing. She made me pay for another muffin (which I had no problem with) and as I was walking out, she yelled "BLAME IT ON ME FOR YOUR MISTAKE?!" I was so taken back, just trying to get what I paid for in the first place, I ended up having to pay twice, and she was yelling at me on my way out of the door. No thanks. So rude when I was so not upset and I am the one that should have been. Never...
