Take note of the bad recent reviews before reading mine, but even more so, take note of the poor responses from the owner to these bad reviews. One of which the owner berates a customer who was charged an 18% service charge on top of their hibachi meal which was never communicated, along with a requested 15% tip. This is literally the direct quote: “but you can tell us that you don't have money to pay the server and chef tips”. How incredibly rude to insinuate that your customer can’t afford to pay for their own meal, especially under the circumstance where you failed to communicate an 18% upcharge.
So we scheduled a reservation for 7pm on a Saturday evening for two, just my wife and I. I’ve never had hibachi, but my wife has & she was excited to get to experience that with me. We did read the reviews prior to arriving, and my wife had her own reservations about choosing this place, but I ignorantly vouched for them and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Upon arrival, we were told regardless of our reservation that there was a 20 min wait, disappointing but whatever baseball’s on and I can kill 20 min. After 30 min passed, zero people were seated for hibachi, along with no update on an eta, I asked my wife if we could leave. She wanted to stay & wait solely on the reason of me trying hibachi for the first time. Everyone else was seated for hibachi except for us, and it was after 8pm at this time. Still no update. My wife went to the counter to ask how much longer and we were told 5 more min. She proceeded to ask if we would receive any discount for the inconvenience and were told no, we should have made a reservation. My wife exclaimed that we had a standing reservation at 7pm and the woman behind the counter was dumbfounded, checked her paperwork to verify, and excused herself for a minute. A man returned (likely the owner, who initially told us the wait was 20 min) & my wife asked him the same question about a discount and he said “no, there’s nothing we can do”. My wife asked him “really, there is truly nothing you’re willing to do?”. Thankfully he relented and offered us 15% off, which is honestly in hindsight a slap in the face because their current coupons are 10% off. My wife sat back down and I said “at some point we are disrespecting ourselves here by allowing them to walk all over us. What if we go in & continue to receive horrible service & a terrible first experience of hibachi for me”. Upon considering this we chose to leave and were seated immediately at Urban Grill in Newtown, which we highly recommend.
Overall, this place chose to over promise & under deliver. Based upon our interactions with them they don’t care about serving their customers, they care about your money and that’s where the interest ends. I’m thankful we chose to leave before things got worse. What if we had stayed, continued to have terrible service, at a terrible price, & when we refused to pay without a proper discount have the police called in by the owners (check another review)? We will not be returning under any circumstance, and we will warn all considering on going to this poor...
Read moreI went to this place to pick up a carry out order and they refused to accept my coupon. They put a digital coupon in the Entertainment book and then decide not to take the digital coupon. I went there solely because of the digital coupon. I asked about and alternative offer and was told wouldn't do that either. I asked for the manager and was just told that he or she was in the back cooking. I never raised my voice in the establishment or got aggressive. I then said that I didn't want the food and proceeded to leave which was my right to do! Just as she had the right to not accept my coupon I had the right to leave! The lady runs out and calls the police and stands behind my car refusing to let me leave. I filmed most of the incident and have proof of it. I don't know why she thought she had the right to do that if it was my color or what it was? I had just got off from working a 4-hour shift after getting off this morning from a 24-hour shift so I had just put in 28 hours out of 36. All I was trying to do was get some food and go home so that I could get ready to go in tomorrow for another 24-hour shift. The fact that I then felt I had to stay there because now I was put a position where I had to FEAR for my life and my children's future. Some will not understand or refuse to understand due to the fact that they are not black. I'm a divorced mom with two kids under 18 that still very much need their mom. One of my children is autistic and we are still dealing with that on a daily basis. You really never know what a person is going through. So that's why you should try to treat people with kindness, respect and understanding. I have my concealed carry permit so the police might have assumed that I had my gun, which I didn't at the time. With what the Asian community is going through why would you then mistreat someone who was attempting to support your establishment? Now, my purchase was conditional based on the acceptance of my coupon. I felt like it was false advertisement to not have accepted a coupon that they paid to have published and was still valid. They need to withdraw the coupon!
(This was a carryout order) In response to owner's comment. If you read the coupon it is not from Restaurant.com. I did read the coupon and the fine print! Please don't subscribe to electronic coupon services to draw people in and refuse to accept a coupon. If you worried about wasting food then you should have compromised just like I tried to. Just like you had the right not to take the coupon I had the right not to purchase the food. We owed each other nothing but mutual respect. I was definitely not given my respect and my rights was seriously...
Read moreStay away, Find somewhere else to eat. I am very disappointed in this place. On a little mini vaca cause we can't afford much. My wife and I and our 5 kids, mind you the oldest is 10 yo and our youngest is a newborn and only our family is sitting at this table. We ordered sushi, steak, chicken and shrimp. A couple kids had to go potty and the chef acted like we were wasting his time. They weren't busy at all. He left the grill and said he would come back later. He did finally come back. He did his egg roll and all (not very well either) all of the food except for the sushi, of course, was BURNT even the rice. I was very disappointed. Then we got our bill. They charged us a server fee of over 30 some dollars for having a party of 6 or more, making our $160 bill over 200 dollars. We never seen any sign, not was we told about this extra charge ahead of time or else I'd understand. When I asked about it the server said that he and the chef split that money and then he proceeded to ask for a 15% tip on top of that! I couldn't even eat the meat, it was so tough to even chew!
I never said they weren't polite or professional, because they both were. This review is about the service, the quality of food and that darn service fee. I believe it to be very inappropriate to charge a fee for having a certain number of people, granted it is your right. I personally stay away from businesses that charge extra for having more people, because the business is making more money with the larger party and charging a fee simply because you have a larger-than-you-care-for party. In my eyes this is very...
