Pizza King (Angola) Grade Under New Ownership : F-

Attn New Owner - I made 3 phone calls to the Angola location. All 3 calls were routed to the Fremont location’s voicemail with instructions to leave a message. So, do you retrieve pizza orders from your Fremont voicemail? If not, you should rethink your call forwarding setup. My 4th call to the Angola location was picked up by Angola.

Phone order time: 6:19pm - 6:32pm. That’s 13 mins. I wasn’t placed on hold. It was an actual 13 min phone conversation to place a 3 item order.

The young man taking my order was unapologetically pleasant. However, owner & manager, it’s solely your fault for putting an employee on phones when you’ve completely failed to train him. Owner & manager, it’s solely your fault you have an employee taking orders who has no menu item knowledge. Owner & manager, you’ve failed to properly train your employee on understanding & transcribing delivery addresses. Order takers are important in the restaurant business. Order takers are your first line of communication with your customers. Of course, this is assuming you want past, present & future customers to return. Do you want customers at all?

I gave my address (spelling the street name) 5 times. I had 5% confidence (and I’m being generous) the transcription of my address was correctly written down. When I asked the young man if he’d like to read my address back to me, what I got was my order read back to me, twice. Not my address. My order.

What I ordered: Spaghetti dinner, side salad w/ ranch dressing, breadsticks w/ marinara sauce & cheese sauce. Stromboli wrap up 8” Turkey Club Sub

What I received: ✅ Spaghetti, 🚫 side salad, 🚫 breadsticks, ✅ marinara & cheese sauce (for the missing breadsticks 🚫). ✅ 8” Turkey Club sub ❓ 8” ham sub 🚫 Didn’t order & don’t like ham. ❓By process of elimination I assume the last thing sloppily wrapped in a pizza sauce covered too small piece of foil & shoved in a pizza sauce stained sandwich bag was supposed to be a Stromboli wrap up. This disaster looked like… a soggy, mushy road kill brain covered in cheese. I have 2 pictures (top & bottom) of this crime scene reminiscent mess.

After placing my order & hanging up the phone, given my “generous” 5% confidence in a successful delivery, a plan was put in place at our house for one of us to go pickup our delivery order at 7:10pm - 7:15pm.

Upon arrival to pick up our delivery order, the food was indeed ready. There it was, sitting on a back counter, not under a warmer. Mmm, yummy. No delivery person in sight, no delivery person putting our food in delivery bag to keep it warm. Yet, there sat a delivery car in the parking lot.

Pizza King had been a well oiled machine long before I moved to Angola 35 years ago. It’s not possible to count the number of carry out, dine in & delivery meals we’ve had over those years. It’s easy to count the number of meals we’ll have under the new ownership. One. New Owner: you need to get your act together, fast. It appears you’ve hired a new staff. A whole new untrained staff. Smart. That’s an egregious error you’ll either learn from the hard way or fail from the fast way. Change my opinion with vast improvement at Pizza King & then I’ll retract my review. I sincerely mean...

Went there today for lunch and the waitress and staff was pretty rude. As soon as we sat down she asked if we knew what we wanted. When we said no because we were waiting on a couple other people to arrive but would like to order breadsticks, she acted annoyed. After the two people we were waiting on arrived, she eventually came back over and took our order but then totally skipped the person sitting closest to her and walked away. Honestly, this could have been no problem but she would never acknowledge us trying to politely flag her down when she was bouncing all over the dining room. Either she was ignoring us or she has 0 peripheral vision. Eventually the person that was skipped just walked up to the counter to add his order. When we got our food she asked if we wanted any cheese and pepper flakes but never brought them out. The last person waiting for food was my wife who ordered a sub. She waited and waited while she insisted other people started eating and we began trying to flag our waitress down again to remind her of the sub. The waitress finally came over after 10+ minutes with her sub but everyone was practically finished eating so we asked that she made it to go. When the waitress brought it back out in a bag to go, she never apologized or said anything. When I went to pay, I asked for a discount on the sub since we got it so late and the waitress was so cold. The girl at the register turned around and asked the half-dead lady, who I assume was the manager, if we got a discount. She just stared for a second then snarled and told her to give it to us. We checked out and left. We never received a simple sorry or anything, which is whatever, but these people were just not nice. After I wrote the tip, I almost instantly regretted the...

First, I worked in a restaurant atmosphere before, so I know the business pretty well. I called on a Friday night for delivery. I'm sure the restaurant was busy and can totally understand if delivery was going to be a while. The guy who took my order, not sure if he was new or just stoned. I had to repeat what I wanted at least three different times, and when I asked to repeat it back to me, he still got it wrong. He kept saying, "Hold on," and I could hear him asking another employee questions. Very frustrating to having to repeat our order three times. After all that, he said that it would be 25 minutes for delivery. I asked twice, 25 minutes, you sure? He said, "25 minutes." I thought maybe they weren't that busy for Friday. After an hour and 20 minutes with no order, I thought I'd call to get an update. If the guy was new, maybe he misjudged the time of delivery. A girl answered the phone, and I asked for an update. She just yelled, and I mean YELLED, he's on his way, and hung up. Another 20 minutes later, we got our order. Everything was wrong. Salad was wilted lettuce, two tomato slices, and wrong dressing. Pizza looked like it had been in an earthquake: very sloppy in the box, sparce toppings, hardly any cheese, sauce all over the inside. Both subs, that again, we had to repeat our order 3 times, both wrong. Unfortunately, because of time, the restaurant was closed when we called back, just to say our sub order was wrong. Don't think I'll...

The food was nothing to write home about. I will say they had good Iced tea. The crust was hard and dry, and the toppings (only cheese) weren't cooked completely. The cheese sticks were lack luster and were small, and their salad needs more toppings. I didn't take a picture but all it has is croutons, cheese, and tomatoes. They need to add maybe some bell pepper, onions, and some boiled eggs at least, but the atmosphere was wonderful, their service was wonderful so much so I didn't say anything. I enjoyed being in the moment by myself. I usually either have my toddler,or my mother who I care for 24/7, so it was definitely nice. The prices were average. I may go try a sub next time maybe that will be better.

Pizza is almost always excellent, and it's a legit Pizza King, not an 'Express' or one of those knock offs. Problem here is that it's generally poorly managed and staffed, with casual-at-best adherence to food safety, mask/glove adoption, and cleanliness. Staff are less than focused on the customer, but despite all this, the food is still pretty darn good. Get carry out, and avoid busy times if you must go in person.
