Ok, so I'm craving some good fried chicken. This place, I've driven by many times but never stopped by. Today was the day! I read some of the other reviews and thought I'd give it a shot.
The place is sparse, but very clean, only one couple dining in at lunchtime. I chose to get take-out. I ordered a 3-piece dinner with the two standard sides, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. It also came with a dinner roll.
First, the chicken. The three pieces I received were a thigh, wing and breast. The wing had zero meat on it and I almost didn't bother eating it. I was thinking, "if that is the third piece they add over the standard two-piece dinner, so no worth the extra cost." The coating was nicely spiced, crispy and good. The chicken meat itself was disappointingly dry and lacking of flavor. After struggling through the breast meat, I just stripped the other pieces and ate the coating. Overall: disappointing.
The mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. Enough said. The dinner roll, a sad, dry specimen with no discernible yeast, butter or doughy tastes.
Now, the coleslaw. It knocked my socks off - it was really, really good! A beautiful creamy respite from the dry chicken. Nicely textured, excellent balance of flavor with very little sour vinegar taste and mild spices that allowed the cabbage and carrots their place on the palette. The highlight of the meal.
I think another reviewer had said to stick with the chicken and coleslaw, and that is good advice. Even better advice: just get...
Read moreI often order from here. Usually through eatstreet, but just last night at 6:14p.m. i placed my usual order of chicken tenders and fries. Estimated delivery was an hour later and that was fine, but the time came and still no food. I called to check the status of the order and was told because they short staffed the "owner" would deliver personally after closing which i thought was different but still very appreciated because i didn't have a way to get it otherwise. Well, closing time came and went and still no food so i called again, once again speaking to the person from before, she said that the order was on the way as we speak because she was just leaving the store... Hours later, no food, no call, no apology. As i am writing this review it is the next day and after work i stopped at the restaurant to explain the situation. I was told a refund directly from the store wasn't possible because it was ordered through eatstreet and they would have to refund it? Or i could have the order now? I didn't want the food anymore, just my money back which apparently i have to jump through hoops to receive. I will NEVER order from Wicked Mary's again and i hope nobody else has to deal with such an inept business. If anyone else has had issues with this restaurant, please tell whoever you can so they can avoid...
Read moreStaff was friendly and on top of my order. They had it ready precisely when they said they would. The place is a little run down. The food is why I gave them 3 stars because it was just OK. The chicken was perfectly cooked but it had a smell and slight flavor like older oil had been used to fry it. The sides I had were adequate, nothing exceptional. I tried them out because I received a flyer in the mail that they had re-branded as Wicked Mary's and had sauces of various kinds. They indicated they had Nashville hot chicken. I ordered some Nashville hot and some spicy garlic. I can assure you this is a sad attempt at Nashville hot chicken. The chicken does not come sauced, the sauce is on the side. I thought that was unusual until I tried the sauce which is thick. It is hot sauce (taste like Franks) with various seasonings mixed into it. Nashville hot chicken is made with an oil based sauce so that when painted on the chicken it does not lose its crispiness. This was more like a buffalo sauce with out the butter. Flavor was OK but nothing like Nashville hot chicken. All in all it was not a terrible experience but I cannot see anything that would bring me back as a repeat customer. Do not advertise your product so specifically especially when it is not even close to...
