Suny Sushi — Restaurant in Annandale

Holy moly - who knew an outlet counter in a smelly overlit grocery store could produce such amazing quality fish! We were recommended SUNY by a friend and actually tried to eat here last month. It was a Friday and the counter was so backed up with orders, they weren't taking any new ones. We were able to try it finally last night and were certainly not disappointed, and can clearly see why there are orders out the door. The fish is top top quality, better than any restaurant sushi in the nova area, and without the added frills cost too. Can't rave enough about how fresh every piece of fish is. We had a quick chat with the guy at the counter who mentioned their staff goes up to NY/Boston to hand-pick their fish. Hope the quality stays this way, we've found our go-to quality sushi spot in nova. The staff at the counter are also really nice. Definitely...

Fresh and quality sushi and sashimi at a reasonable price! By far, the best and quality sushi/sashimi place in the NOVA area. Many people don't know the importance of rice in sushi, how it's cooked and seasoned. When the rice is on point, it amplifies the freshness of fish and its delicacy. When two are in harmony, you can say "This is a great sushi" and Suny Sushi exceeded my expectation on that. It's also worth mention that their sashimi was in great portion (thickness and size). Rightly sized and thick to give you the fullness of the taste of fresh seafood.

I will definiyely recommend my family and friends to give it a try at Suny Sushi because it's well worth it.

Order and service were chaotic. Not sure if this is usual or just because it was a holiday. Location is in an international market. I ordered, received a buzzer, hung around for 30 min trying to figure out why three rolls and a rice dish would take this long. Finally decided to check in with cashier to find out order had been finished at some point, sushi had sat around for 15 min or so, teriyaki dish was cold, never got notified via buzzer...it was very disappointing. Sushi was beautifully wrapped. They are very skilled at the sushi making, I admit. But they were taking these HUGE sushi tray orders and forgot about the little people.
