I have wanted to check this place out for a while. I was in town/close by so I stopped by early Friday afternoon It was not that crowded, no one greeted me, I finally had to stop someone to ask to sit outside. The empty tables weren't clean, again, I asked. No silverware. Maybe 3 or 4 specials. I asked my waiter about one of them. He was not knowledgeable about the ingredients/how it was made. He did not offer, I had to ask him to check. He then preceded to give me incorrect information about the meal. He asked about my choice of eggs, I asked for poached but he said I could only get poached on the weekends which seems strange to me. I asked for my eggs fried medium, they came well done. It took a while but when it came the meal was not made the way he said it was. My original waiter told me the dish came with came with a sauce and didn't know if it spicy or not. I asked if I could get in on the side, he said yes. In reality, it was just shredded cheese sprinkled on toast, mo sauce at all. He never came back to check on me. I had to ask another waiter who also didn't know what the makeup of this simple dish was (Avocado toast with eggs & cheese). Seriously, there were maybe 3/4 basic specials on the board and at least two of your waitstaff know nothing about them? I went to go check on the board inside to see for myself, then asked another waiter who told me the correct information. By this time my food was cold. The other waitress did ask me if I wanted something else but at this point I had already waited a long time and had to be somewhere so I couldn't wait. The food itself was good but the eggs/toast were not hot/that warm upon arrival. It was a shame the experience was ruined by lack of knowledge and lack of attention by the waiter. My original waiter never came back another waitress finally came to check on me once when I was obviously choking from swallowing thre wrong way and needed water. I sat for a while when I was finished with my empty plate out, obviously finished. I finally had to get up and ask for the check. At this point I asked for a manager. The one waitress that paid any attention to me said she was the manager on duty. I told her about my experience and that my original waiter never came back although he was still working. She said she knew because she had 'talked to him' no one came to me to say they were taking my table or to explain the change, which left me without adequate service the entire time. She reluctantly offered a gift card. I started to say I wasn't asking for that I really wanted to let them know about my experience an disappointment. I had worked in the service industry for years when I was younger, as a bartender and waitress, I usually tip.20% but this was one of the few times, ever in my life, where I did not feel this waiter had earned a tip. Anyway, she didn't let me finish, she just said something like 'I guess your not impressed'. So, all of a sudden the gift card was off the table which made me feel like they could care less about having a repeat customer. Shame, because they could have remedied the situation in a much better way and had a repeat customer who wouldnt be writing this poor review. Anyway, she said she took 10% off my bill which still ended up being about '$20 fo cold avacado toast with egg and one orange juice with the discount. If I had been that manager, I would have apologized, comped the bill without me having to come to her, since she clearly knew there was a problem. I also would have required my original waiter to apologize to me and personally make it right, as a learning experience, instead of secretly pulling him from waiting on me and leaving me changing Many missed opportunities. I really like to support small, local business but they also have to earn that support. I would have liked the opportunity to return and have a better experience since I am staying down the street, within walking distance, but the apathy and seeming lack of interest in a repeat customer/good review here and with my hosts is disappointing, as was...
Read moreWe stopped coming here because we tired of the constant long wait times and awkward waiting area to get a seat. This was our first time back since their expansion and remodel. Gone are the wait times, but you still awkwardly wait in the dining area. Walls are adorned with overpriced artwork that you can buy.
Steps outside are pretty high and there is no ramp so those with mobility issues will have trouble even with the available handrail. Once inside though they won't have trouble navigating as there is plenty of space between tables to maneuver.
Food, coffee and latte were good, but the OJ had a funky mouth feel and tasted like it was mixed with something. Food portion was OK. It's enough to fill you though I wish that you got more than 1 slice of toast or a small spoonful of breakfast potatoes in the 2 egg breakfast. The original breakfast burrito was good but was boring flavor-wise. We suggest getting it with chorizo. It was different to have coffee with sugar in the raw, but it was either that or artificial sweeteners (which I'm sensitive to) as there is no white sugar option on the table.
Service was slow even though there were staff just standing around. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else before the waitress plopped the bill on our table. She came back once and stood next to the table to, I think, rush me to put payment on the clipboard. Sorry, but I'm going to at least finish my coffee first.
For the latte, a coffee, small OJ and 2 breakfast entrees, the bill came to $40 with tax and tip. Not bad, but we can get more food at our other spot for the same price. We'll keep this place in mind if our regular spot is jammed up or...
Read moreThis morning was our second time visiting Evelyn’s. My in-laws were in town and I raved about the brunch we had there weeks ago, so on their last morning in town we stopped in. I imagine that waitstaff isn’t thrilled to see a party of four with a stroller walk in - somewhat understandable. We waited for a table, trying to make ourselves as small as possible in the tiny waiting space near the front door. Some time later another group of two walked in, after them another party of four (without a baby). We were asked to move towards the back, in front of the bathroom since space was limited. Not an issue, we moved and wanted for a table. My husband and I had our eye on the table in the front by the window so we could put our daughter (who is still asleep in her stroller) by the window out of the way of staff and other guests. As the table was cleared the other party of four was sat before us... I reminded Autumn, who is apparently a manager, that we were here first. I thought she had forgotten in the busyness of the morning. She said, “I know.” Her voice thick with annoyance. “I’m going to sit you here so you have more room for the stroller.” At the table in line with the steaming hot food and coffee coming from the kitchen. I inform her that I wasn’t comfortable with that and we had planned to put our daughter out of the way by the window. Autumn, “we always put people with strollers here, I don’t know what to tell you.” At the point I asked to speak to another manager. She informed me that Brandon, the another manager, wasn’t there that morning but I could “call him tomorrow if I’d like”. I’ve never been more disappointed in a locally...
