I finally went to this place last week and am already back the next. It is fantastic. I have driven by it 100 times and never stopped - that is a mistake. This is one of the best restaurants in Apex. HIGHLIGHTS: - They have really great prices. This allows you to keep coming back instead of making it a once in a while thing. Check out the lunch menu, you literally cannot find a better deal in town. - Great portion sizes. - Fantastic flavors and everything tastes really fresh. Flavors are soooo good. The meat was SUPER moist which was surprising because most of the time hibachi meat is really dry from overcooking. Things I've tried: -Hibachi chicken & steak w/ rice, zucchini & onion (be sure to get ginger and seafood/white sauce) -Yaki chicken w/ rice, zucchini and onion -Chicken katsu w/ soba noodles and cabbage Final Notes: The hibachi and Yaki were absolutely great, but the chicken katsu is next level. I highly recommend subbing out the rice on this dish for the soba noodles, and choosing a side of cabbage. You will not regret this arrangement. It comes with seafood sauce for dipping and it is A++++. I haven't tried the carrots as side but the zucchini and onions are amazing with such good flavor and great portion size. For hibachi and yaki I recommend doing rice with zucchini and onions, but with the katsu, I highly recommend cabbage and soba noodles.

Fraudulent! The spicy crab roll is supposed to be soft shelled crab but I can only find imitation crab meat in it. The waiter says the soft shell is the finely minced mushy mess that’s been broiled on top of my roll but I’m not convinced as it just tasted like breadcrumb porridge. If true it is the worst preparation of crab I’ve ever experienced. No wonder they have to add imitation crab to the roll. Furthermore my squid tempura was Not Tempura at all but rather some generic pub breading on maybe calamari sticks—I honestly thought they had brought out the wrong order as I thought they were mozzarella sticks when first brought out. My husband had the chicken Katsu which over cooked. The gyoza was bland but at least not offensive. The best thing I can say is kudos to actually serving ponzu with the gyoza. We will not be coming back even though I drive past this place several times a week.

8-20-22 update; This is our go-to place for great sushi and has been since he opened a decade ago in 2012. During COVID we were there about every other week getting takeout, and now we eat in, typically at lunch every other week. We went for dinner on Saturday night, food was fantastic. First time getting the grilled flounder, very flavorful, cooked perfectly, complimented the Futomaki and Sapporo roll sushi that we had as appetizers. Our waitress has taken care of us for years, she always has a smile on her face and is very attentive, same for Van and his wife. Such a great contribution to our community, we wish them many years of continued success! Original contribution: Van and his wife love to take care of their customers. Yamato is always my wife's first choice for local Japanese. They always check our table to make sure we were satisfied. Can't ask for more.

Before going to Yamota of Apex I was very excited and high very high expectations due to its 4.9 rating online, basically the highest rated restaurant in the area, Its a dive of a place but inside was clean, the wait staff was friendly and attentive. However the prices were a little ridiculous. My family and I went for lunch on a Sunday, I ordered the filet and chicken combo. To put things in perspective my mother who ordered just hibachi chicken her meal cost something around $6-7 which for lunch is very appropriate. For the amount of food she got (vegetables, chicken, rice, shrimp sauce, and soup) that is a fantastic price. The chicken is alright, I wouldn't call it high quality but it's a cut above most places chicken. My complaint lies mostly with my meal. Like I said I ordered filet and chicken combo. The steak and chicken lunch combo is around $10 I believe. Since I got Filet it was an additional $8 ON TOP OF the steak price. I can buy an entire 6oz filet for $8! It was cooked like I had asked (Medium rare) but it was not worth much more than a few dollars more than steak. Very disappointed with it not because it was bad but because of how much it cost. My meal cost $20 for myself alone for lunch which is ridiculous. For that price I could go to a nice steakhouse. It was a good Japanese restaurant in the area, not the best and certainly not worth the 4.9 rating it currently has but I overall had a nice experience and I will be returning just not ordering the filet again. Would definitely recommend eating here if you have not yet tried it. Good food for a good price unless...

So, the sushi's solid The hibachi is very good. The waiters and waitresses are young but are obviously learning and doing their best to serve the employees and make a good impression. If I were to stop there, this would probably be a 4 star rating. However, two things make me give this place five stars: (1) the value and (2) the ownership. Sure, you can pay $15-$20 for some really fancy and probably slightly better sushi. You could also pay $22-$30 for hibachi and a show at one of the larger Japanese steakhouses. But, given the quality of the food and the prices, I just really feel good about what I get for my money here. Regarding the ownership, a mistake was made one time with my pick-up order. Something was completely left out, but I didn't notice until I got home. When I called to notify them, the person who answered told me I could either come pick it up or they'd just drop the charges for that item. I opted for the latter since I didn't feel like going back out. About five minutes later, I get a phone call from the owner... profusely apologizing, saying the mistake was inexcusable, and deciding to comp our entire meal (complete dinner for two). I couldn't believe he would take the time to do that, but it proved to me how much he valued loyalty TO his customers. Displaying such service and loyalty is rewarded in-kind, as we try to go at least once a month, if not more. Yamato is the kind of family-friendly small businesses I...

Not many small business owners left in this area.

Very consistent husband & wife team who both cook & prepare a proper environment for a visiting person.

Food : Highly recommend the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki glaze, is perfection. The taste is spot on, without saturation of flavors or that taste of bitterness.

The hibachi steak, might be my favorite because it holds that elegance in tenderness & flavor. You can taste the rich quality in some foods that are served to you.

While the fried rice is not actually fried rice like you would get at a Japanese grill house, it is of appropriate portions for those who are calorie conscious & wanting to just feel full, instead of bloated.

Their half and half tea is exceptional, great pricing as well.

If you have children, they will love the ranch, the rice & chicken/steak options.

All main course orders, come with a vegetable that cannot be changed so you have to be made aware of that. For example; some steak choices only come with onions sauted. Others come with mushrooms or with broccoli.

Whatever your visit, please continue supporting these local business owners who also provide a safe and comforting environment for our families.

I’ve been a chef in past, been a restaurant reviewer for over a decade and have been a customer of theirs for nearly 8 years now.

please bring back the bento boxes, it felt more organized and appropriate to portion sizes with various options to...
