This is a classic donut shop that delivers a really good product, or products to be more precise. If you're like me and you like a good donut, and please Dunkin doesn't count as a donut, this place is for you. They have a great menu of items, too many to enjoy in one trip so yeah I'll have to make another trip from Ocoee. We were out heading to Home Depot when I mentioned to my wife that the last time I went there I noticed a new donut shop on the way. When I discovered it was now opened, I turned into the parking lot and was ready to give it a try. Upon entering this great little shop you are surrounded by the aroma of deliciousness. And then the visual begins. Yes in the display case we're at least 15 different donuts to choose from with one looking better than the next. Tough decisions to be sure and with more chores to follow Home Depot, we kept the order to a minimum of what would be eaten immediately. Honestly I would have ordered way more had my wife not been there but she's the voice of reason, or just a spoiler. I narrowed my selection down to 2, the Twinkle Bar and Nutella Overload while my wife went with the Triple Chocolate. I'll start with her take, the donut was a classic cake donut but not overly dense. The flavors were exactly what one would want, rich and chocolatey. Chocolate cake, icing and sprinkles delivered in a perfectly sized donut. For me the Twinkle Bar was as described by the young woman who served us, a donut that is filled with buttercream that is not overly sweet, just a light and flavorful experience. Damn it was good. Then I moved to the Nutella Overload and it delivered in a big way. Great balance of a yeast donut and the filling made every bite as enjoyable as the last. Which was my favorite? Guess I may have to get a few more to think it through. Then again, I do need to try the rest of this impressive lineup. BRAVO to this great little local shop and here's wishing them all the success...
Read moreSo, I have been wanting to try these since Saturday (Opening Day) and finally was able to. I really really really wanted these to live up to the hype that I am hearing about this place and the fact that they keep selling out each day with in a few hours. I tried a variety of doughnuts, both yeast and cake, and I hate to say I was very disappointed.
The cake donuts are pretty dry and not a lot of flavor going on. You for sure need them with some coffee or milk. My kids tried them as well and agreed that they are not so great. I have had Entenmann's cake doughnuts that are much moister.
The yeast doughnuts also fell very short of expectations. They where also dry, lacked really any flavor and did not have much filling inside. The Strawberry cheesecake doughnut was filled with artificial tasting strawberry filling and no actual cream cheese could be tasted anywhere on this thing. The hazelnut filled one had a very small dollop of filling and you really could not taste much hazelnut. The texture and taste of the actual yeast doughnut was that of a Walmart doughnut. Very much like fried white bread.
The staff was very nice and friendly, but the overall product did not hit the mark for me. Very expensive doughnuts for what you get. I paid over $18 for a 1/2 dozen. I pay $18 for a full dozen, including "specialty" doughnuts from TK Coffee & Doughnuts in Longwood and they at 10,000% better tasting than what I had from here.
Like I said, I really wanted this to work out because I am all about supporting local Mom & Pop shops, but for the price and the overall quality it is probably going to be a one and...
Read moreStopped in to support our new neighborhood small business. Was greeted with smiles and great attitudes. Love the home town feeling! Purchased a baker's dozen. A bit pricey at almost $40, but since this isn't a chain, everything is made fresh daily, and donuts are rare treats for me anyway, I happily paid. Taste tested all of them. #1 Hands Down = The Boston Creme! I ate the whole thing. Perfect pastry with generous amount of custard filling. Glad I got two. The Nutella and Lemon Cheesecake options were also generously filled with perfectly balanced flavors. Chocolate iced, Triple chocolate, and a third chocolate that had shavings were solid options. The peanut butter was a bit too sweet and dry, while the cinnamon sugar needed a little more flavor. The Maple, Maple Bacon, and Chocolate bars were purely my fault. I thought they would be filled, like the Boston Creme. However, they were only iced. For me, it was too much dough and a little dry. Finally, the apple fritter. Sadly, it was a bit overcooked and dry too.
Overall, I was pleased and know exactly what I'll be ordering next time...Boston Creme...because despite a few disappointments, I will be back! Hopefully in the future, they can convert that lovely Boston Creme custard into maple and chocolate fillings? Just a...
