I’ve been to MT Plate before and have always enjoyed the food, but unfortunately, the customer service on our recent visit was disappointing enough to make us leave before even eating.
We were seated on the outdoor patio and waited over 45 minutes after placing our order. During that time, we even changed tables due to the heat — and no one followed up with us. To make things worse, we had brought our dog with us, assuming it would be okay since I had previously seen other guests dining with their dogs outside, and there are even dog water bowls placed at both entrances. Our server saw the dog, complimented him, and even pet him twice without issue.
However, just before our food was to arrive, the owner came out, asked about our dog’s breed, and then told us that dogs are not allowed due to sanitation concerns. When we clarified that he wasn’t a service animal, we were told he needed to be put in the car — despite it being nearly 90 degrees and the fact that the staff had already seen and interacted with the dog without any concern.
This felt inconsistent and unfair, especially when the same staff had shown no problem earlier and other guests have been allowed to dine with dogs. It left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, and we chose to leave.
I still think the kitchen does a great job, and I hope the owner will consider improving communication and consistency around their pet policy — and how guests are...

He lit his first fire in his newly built clay oven which stood deep within the forest. Before reaching my destination, I visited MT Plate Diner, a new spot in town, to get a hot meal. The clam chowder I ordered proved to be the perfect comfort I required. The dish provided me with a peaceful kind of sustenance through its creamy texture and tender potatoes and sweet corn and soft clams which created a steady comfort without any sense of urgency. For a moment, the fog lifted. The small new establishment provided me with an experience that transcended time. I felt refreshed after leaving so I could continue my journey through the forest while approaching the firelight...
Read moreMy family has had a cottage in Arcadia my entire life, and we've never had a breakfast in Arcadia this good. You could pick this diner up and drop it in any city in America, and I think there would be lines out the door. What a blessing to have this in Arcadia. The food exceeded our expectations, was very reasonably priced and we'll be back for sure. The owner even came out to help us save a mommy bird who had been caught in a balloon string. Talk about going...
