First of all, please know that I rarely give any service entity a bad review, especially restaurants. I've worked restaurant/retail myself. I am normally a generous tipper, and am understanding of the job they have to do. In fact, I don't usually form an opinion after one bad experience - any business can have an "off" day. But this experience was so bad it is notable. One star is too is far too generous, at least based on my personal experience.
We were a party of 9 (with reservations), arrived on time, and was seated promptly. We finally got the attention of what appeared to be the only server and ordered drinks and appetizers. After about 15 minutes, we inquired about the appetizers. They were serving another large party and would take our order shortly. We ultimately ordered appetizers for the group and were told that they would take our meal orders after we receive the appetizers. After a long wait for the appetizers and being told again about the other party, we asked our server to just scrap the appetizers and we will order our meals. We were starving.
Since I have to be gluten free, I had already reviewed the menu and knew there wouldn't be much I could order - that's fine. But seeing grilled chicken on the menu, I asked if they could grill the pork chop vs breading & frying it. The server checked with the kitchen and advised me that the pork chops come PRE-BREADED so of course, it can't be grilled.
I finally ordered a couple of vegetable sides packaged to go (collards and yams were tasty). I saw people in line waiting to pay their checks, so I decided to use the QR code on my check to pay. Yeah, by then I was done.
I had spent much more time WAITING than I did EATING and enjoying the food, and am thankful for the great conversation with my sisters. But we drove from various areas of D/FW to visit your restaurant (I drove about an hour), and other ladies suffered through traffic on 20 or 820 to get there.
@Southern Eats, I don't plan to ever visit your restaurant again, and am ticked off that I wasted my time going there. Shame on you. You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo the point, the food was terrible. I ordered the chicken and waffles brunch plate with chicken wings instead of the tenders. The sides were scrambled eggs and seasoned potatoes. The potatoes were not seasoned and did not taste or feel like they were cooked recently. The eggs and the waffles are tied for the worst part of the meal. The eggs were of the powdered variety that I remember being served in Navy boot camp. There is an odd, not really egg texture and taste those eggs have and I was appalled that was served in a restaurant. 100% not real eggs. The waffle tasted like the batter was only water and flour. I tried to make them work by adding the syrup and chicken, but the very un-waffle like taste could not be overcome. And then it had the gall to be wet in the center. Huge fail! All if that is my opinion from just my meal. My wife also did not like her food. She ordered chicken wings, as well with sides of cornbread, collard greens, and sweet potatoes. Her words: the sweet potatoes tasted like they came from a can. The collards had way too much vinegar in them. I liked the cornbread. It tasted like Jiffy and I like that. We both liked the chicken wings, so there was a positive. Buuuuutttt, there was this really funky smell coming from the back corner of the booth we sat in. We got up and moved to a table further away. Lastly, I cannot say that I was a fan of the atmosphere. Sure it was a Thursday evening, but the vi e felt dead and the was some Hockey award show in all of the TVs. The waiter was cool, though. I will not be going back to Southern Eats again for their powdered eggs, canned sweet potatoes, or flour and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI gave it one star because the service was terrible and it took over 20 mins in line to pay before seated. You have to pay at the register, once we got seated it took another hour and a half to get served with only 5 of us there , they bought two meals at a time, and I was the last person to get my meal, and my food was served cold, how can you serve cold scrambled eggs?and it wasn't that many people's there when we got there, the lines is long because they were slow and kept getting confused on the prices . they made too many mistakes on what we ordered, they were unmasked leaning over me , I ask him why he's not masked and leaning over me, he said it wasn't allowed to wear one, mind you it was all men's serving and it was a mess. not saying it because it were all mens .The waiter never came back to see how our food were one of the guys ask if everything was ok, I let him know my food was cold ,he said he would check on it but no one never came, the guy who ask us is the same guy that waste a whole tray of drinks on the table behind us and on them also. It was so bad they brought one thing out at a time. The only thing that was good was the music. Heck it even took him a hour To bring me a beer after I ask him was he going to bring it right back. I got it when he bought my food. And I drove 30mins to the place to meet up with my daughter's. I called to let the lady know my experience she said she would give my number to the owner, I haven't got a call back .that was Sunday and today is friday.Helloāļø I'm still waiting on my call. Their prices is above the service, I try to support black on black buisness.Won't be...
