Read moreExcellent tea room. I'd been to the (sadly currently closed) Black Mountain location a few times prior and it was easily one of my favorite places I've ever been. With the closing of that location I decided to head in to Ashville to see how one of the other two locations are. First tried the one in downtown Ashville, but it was packed with no tables available. As this location is close by I headed here. Much less crowded on a late Thursday afternoon. The experience is every bit as amazing as the one I had previously visited. Both teas we tried were delicious (I had the Lotus brick puerh) and the desserts (I had the mugwort mochi daifuku) were wonderful. The environment is warm, peaceful, and inviting and the staff are knowledgeable about what they have to offer.
Second trip this week I tried another pu erh, loved it but prefer the Lotus, and my three sisters tried a roobos, white tea, and oolong tea. All were wonderful. I had the kitchari, and we also tried the banana toast with almond butter and honey and the miso humus with millet flat bread. Everything was delicious!
If you love tea I encourage you to check out one of the locations in Ashville. Even if all you have had previously is bagged black or green tea you should head here and try one or two teas. The quality and experience are like nothing else you're likely to find in this area! Don't be intimidated by the tea "bible", just ask the staff for some...
Read moreI typically drink black, oolong or green teas. I came here to try something new, and Dobra did not disappoint.
The experience: The young man and lady behind the counter were knowledgeable and personable. When I didnt know what to try, the young man agreed to make me his favorite tea. He made the first steep for me at the counter window, and talked me through the process and the history of the tea. He brought a tray with a small teapot, a glass cantor of hot water, a small tea cup to a window table for me. Because it was my first time, he brought a small tea light to the table for a nice touch and both he and the young lady checked on me a couple times during my visit.
The space: a calming atmosphere with instrumental music playing over the speakers. The interior of the building has a mostly wood aesthetician, with some open seating toward the front of the business, a bar style seating setup across the front window,, and some sectioned off areas that appeared to have Japanese style tatami mats and tables.
The tea: The tea the associate made was a Pu erh tea called Lin Cang, which is pretty earthy in flavor (almost reminiscent of a mix between a black breakfast tea and a red rooibos). The tea was a medium-reddish brown in color and had a pleasant smooth flavor, without being overly bitter or aromatic.
Overall, a great experience, and I'm looking forward to trying another...
