Biscuit Head Asheville NC- chose Biscuit Head to enjoy some legendary southern style biscuits. while we really enjoyed them, they didn't knock my socks off. very busy when we showed up for our breakfast. cool decor and a very personable server. Covid protections in place here. though there were many interesting biscuit sandwiches-pulled pork, chicken, etc-we chose one full breakfast and one half breakfast which consist of two eggs, a biscuit, and either one or two sides. we both chose country ham as one side and i added fried green tomatoes as a second side. the biscuits were huge (cat's head size) and very fluffy but our two were a bit crumbly leaning towards dry. for condiments on the biscuits, they have a "bar' with an assortment of individual pre cupped jams. maybe a dozen choices. should have paid more attention to numbers and flavors. i think they usually have this as a self-serve bar but not during Covid. we chose a mixed berry and a fruit/sweet chili jam. berry was delicious but the chili didn't go well on biscuits. my fried green tomatoes were delicious with a light batter and served piping hot. the chili jam went well on these! a word of warning on the country ham-it's VERY salty. i wasn't expecting this as i hadn't tasted country ham from this part of the country before. i didn't see details on this on the menu but it may have been there. the ham here is made locally and dry cured which creates the saltiness. they have info on it on the webpage. it was difficult for us to enjoy due to the the extreme salt. you've been warned. would definitely come back and maybe try the dish called the...
Read moreBiscuit Head has acquired a lofty reputation since it opened its doors more than a decade ago, and it was only a matter of time before we ended up here to see if it lived up to the hype. One drawback to said reputation: it gets busy, and it gets loud. Best try to catch them during an off-peak hour and hope that you can snag an open table.
That caveat aside, the menu is great. You can keep it simple with a biscuit and your choice of topping, roll the dice with a biscuit sandwich, or step up and take on a gut-busting breakfast platter. There are also sweet dishes and a bar full of complimentary jams.
My wife and I went with the biscuit of the day (Korean fried chicken), a biscuit with mushroom gravy, fried green tomatoes, and a side of bacon. The biscuits were good, but if you get them in a sandwich, don’t expect the sandwich to hold together. No matter: forks exist for a reason. The Korean fried chicken included both Korean BBQ sauce and pimento cheese, an interesting fusion of Asian and Southern that somehow worked. The accompanying tots were crispy and addictive, and the mushroom gravy was creamy and rich. The fried green tomatoes were respectable but would have been better topped with pimento.
Ultimately, Biscuit Head did not disappoint. The biscuits weren’t the best I’ve ever had, but the food here was...
Read moreSo, I'm going to be the oddball here and say that my favorite parts of this restaurant are everything minus the biscuits! Let me explain... I'm a true southern girl so I've been eating homemade biscuits my whole life. While these were OK, they were a bit on the drier side like some others have said. However, here's what I absolutely did love about Biscuit Head. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved quickly and even though I really thought there would be no table for us to sit down at when we ordered, there was! The staff were extremely friendly. The person who took our order (Black gentleman with locs I believe) was very friendly. Our food came quickly. You can definitely tell they use fresh, local ingredients. My husband's OJ was freshly squeezed. I could tell the bacon on my sandwich was fresh. I absolutely LOVED the fried green tomatoes. Delicious! My latte was delicious also. The only bit of advice I would give is to please tell your waitresses to not lay silverware directly on the table. Our waitress did this and I thought that was gross so I asked for new silverware. Also, no one told us about the area of condiments with jams and things. Saw it later after we'd...
