After visiting the Biltmore Estate in the southern part of Asheville, we started to look for places in the area for lunch. After looking at places nearby and checking out the reviews, we decided to try this place. Our visit was on July 31, 2018.
Juicy Lucy's Burger Bar and Grill is located about a mile south of Interstate 40 (Exit 50) on Hendersonville Rd. There is a large sign for it as you approach. Heading south on Hendersonville Rd, it's on the left side of the road.
When we got there, the parking lot was already getting full, but we were able to find a spot. We got there around 12:15 pm, so it wasn't a surprise since this is probably a peak lunch time. Once inside, it definitely as the the feel of a bar atmosphere, but was definitely a nicely maintained establishment.
We were immediately seated and our server Ally was at the table pretty much after we were seated. She asked us for our drink orders and then we started to look over the menu. After a few minutes, we still weren't ready and she gave us more time to decide. When she came back the next time, we were finally ready to order. For lunch, I decided to go with the Freedom Juicy Lucy, which is a burger with American cheese stuffed in the burger itself. The highest temperature that is cooked to would be medium. I also customized it by adding bacon and habanero jack cheese on top of the burger. The normal side to go with it was french fries. After about 5-10 minutes, the entrees were brought to the table. The burgers came out hot and exactly as ordered. The burgers were nice and juicy. They were cooked the way it should be and was one of the better burgers I've had in quite a while. Too bad this place isn't where I live. The server came over to check on us to make sure everything was the way it should be, which of course it was.
Overall, this was a great experience for lunch. The portion size was good too, so it lasted us most of the day as well. Those of you that know me well, it's hard to get a five star rating from me, especially with only one visit. The service was great, food was excellent, and I would make sure this is a stop for me if I am in the area in the future. If your travels take you this way, be sure to check...
Read morePeople make mistakes. I have put in over half a decade of food service myself, so I totally understand the potentiality. It's just a fair bit frustrating when you have your girlfriend place the order and I went to pick it up that half of the 6 item order was totally forgotten even after I walked in on two separate occasions with ample time between the two stops for them to recognize the error, yet this was not done. A milkshake, a Coke, and a Pink Lemonade were left off of an order that did include two burgers and cinnamon sticks. Admittedly, being on extremely limited time while on a mini vacation from working 6 days a week helped to add to the frustration. The manager seems to think it's totally okay for everything to be forgotten and expects you to drive yet another half hour while your food becomes cold and just hand you the missing half upon your 3rd arrival for one 6 item order. Upon calling the restaurant, that was indeed his request to solve the problem. Unacceptable poor service and the restaurant parking lot was only half full. They ended up comping the pretzel sticks and the half of the items they clumsily couldn't give after two spaced out visits(I noticed there was no ketchup and extremely limited napkins, so I walked back inside for a 2nd time and waited for 5-10 more minutes to get helped). Even after the trouble they give you they expect you to just put up with their continued unforced errors and waste more of your extremely limited time so you can pick up the other half of your order at full price. Juicy Lucy's service is awful, the extra crispy fries are dead limp soggy, and they treat you with zero importance when you try to reconcile. The burgers are pretty good. Avoid this restaurant if service and attention to details matters to you and you have any hopes that timeliness might also matter. I had once revered this multiple time frequented restaurant but will never return unless I hear that it is under new management and maybe not even then. Overall grade: D. If you go, I hope your experience is nothing...
Read moreI'm torn. Our first visit with our family many months ago was absolutely fabulous, service was awesome and g Food was delicious. This visit was just my wife and I hoping to have an enjoyable evening together. I want to first say, we did not have to wait and the food again was fabulous. Our issue is with the server and service she provided. Emily R was our server, table 12 on 8/20 around 745pm. We were really disappointed and upset to the point that my wife while trying to hold in her anger, started crying. Here's why: 1st- we felt from the start as if we were an inconvience to her or that she was upset we were even in her section. 2nd- we felt rushed by her from the start, she asked if we were ready to order when we had only been seated less than a moment and offered no insight to the menu or specials. 3rd- we did not recieve any silverware and needed to ask 4th- when our food came, my wife's fish sandwich was piping hot...my juicy lucy cheeseburger and fries were cold. It was obvious the cheeseburger had been done waiting on the fish sandwich (it was still awesome. )We never got asked if we want refills, nothing during dinner except if we wanted a box and ready to leave. 5th-This is where things went south again...In the middle of our dinner, Emily walked by obviously angry and threw an entire pack of napkins onto the table next to us. She walked by again, mumbling that's sooo wrong...so wrong...loud enough we heard her. The hostess then sat a 4 top in that same table. 6th- My wife was so upset she was crying and was slow eating. Emily came by asking if we wanted a box? She was told no, within 5 mins she came by again. My wife obviously upset and crying looked at her and sternly said no.
Please know, the food was fabulous This may just be a one off type of situation. Just thoroughly disappointed...
