Read moreTo call Sunny Point Café outstanding would be doing it a disservice. Exceptional and superlative are better words to describe it. This was, by far, one of the best meal experiences I've had.
To start, there is a self-serve coffee stand outside to warm up while you wait for your table. You simply bring your mug with you to the table and your server adds it to your check. You also get free refills on the coffee, and you'll want them because it's quite good.
Our server, Megan, was fantastic! She was very friendly, helpful and attentive. She took the time to describe some of their menu items, pointing out a few award-winning dishes, as well as her favorites. My wife and I talked with her about some of the items and I mentioned that I don't really care for grits. Megan told us that their grits were very good and while we were looking over the menu trying to decide, she left and came back with a small sample of the grits for me to try. She was definitely right. They are very good. I decided to order them as the side for my meal. As we were enjoying out lunch, I noticed that each time Megan came into the room from the kitchen area, she glanced our way to check on us. She was quick to offer more coffee when we got low and checked to ensure we were enjoying our food. She provided one of the best customer service experiences we've ever had. And she's not alone at the café. We noticed that most of the staff was the same with their customers. They all seem happy with what they do and enjoy being there. The energy of the place is very positive.
As for the food, it was beyond delicious. Just amazing. I had the chicken & waffle sandwich with grits on the side and my wife had the shrimp & grits. The blend of flavors was very well balanced and satisfying. We were still talking about the meal and café hours later.
The café has its own garden in the adjoining lot and during growing season they use the fresh produce in their cooking. Guests are welcome to walk through the garden and there is a play area for kids.
If you are in Asheville, you really need to treat yourself to a meal here. Read the reviews, look at the menu on their website. You won't regret the choice.
Thanks again, Megan! My wife and I will be coming back every time we're in Asheville. We'll...
Read moreWow. Sunny Point Café is amazing!! We got there at 10:45 am on a Friday in July. They estimated the wait for food to be 45-50 minutes. You wait in line to order. They give you a number and you wait for your number to be called to then sit at your table. While you wait, you can get coffee and cocktails, and sit, or even walk through their amazing garden! When they call your number, they show you your table and your food comes shortly thereafter. They have a pretty good system!
We had a party of 10 and unfortunately they weren’t able to seat us all together. So just note that if your party is on the larger side (6), you might have to split up.
For drinks, we got coffee, which was just average. We also got iced coffee, which was good. The Bloody Mary was amazing!! It came with lots of garnishes. The rose-shaped bacon was beautiful.
Here’s what we got: Mushroom Omelette ($15): I didn’t try it, but heard it was amazing. Very Berry French Toast ($14): Super good. Obviously pretty sweet, so if you can split this and another dish with someone, that would be ideal. Breakfast Burrito ($14): I didn’t try it, but heard it was amazing. Breakfast Sandwich ($12): I didn’t try it, but heard it was amazing. Mighty Good Breakfast ($13): I didn’t try it, but heard it’s your average eggs. Comes with 2 eggs, choice of meat, choice of side, and a biscuit, which is a good amount of food! Peachy Keen Fried Chicken Biscuit Sandwich ($14): Super, super good. The biscuit itself was delicious. I didn’t think the spicy peach habanero sauce was too spicy at all. Loaded Pimiento Cheese Fries ($9): Great to share with the table. Soo good. Mongolian Beef Hash Special: Delicious. Brussels sprouts, broccoli, potatoes, eggs, and the beef were all cooked very well. Most of the dishes came with choice of side of spuds, grits, or fruit (fruit for +$2). Each side was very good! The fruit was very fresh. Not your typical melon and grape fruit side that most restaurants do. Since it’s summer, it had strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, grapes, orange, blackberries.
We totally understand the hype. I highly, highly recommend...
