We were headed back from Michigan and wanted some Mexican food and I am so glad we found this place. I wish I could give it 10 stars. This is hands down the best and most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had. My entree wasn’t soaked in grease which I was so happy about. I had the chimichangas and they were just perfect. I’ve never had refried beans I enjoyed until I had them here they were SO good, the rice was great too! The service was also perfect, the second I made contact with anyone working they came over to see if I needed anything. I believe our waiter was the owner and he was so kind and humble, it was so nice to see so soft spoken and kind. I’m not going to lie if I had a place like that, that served the perfect Mexican dishes I don’t think I’d be as humble as he is. As I was up front paying the bill he asked how my meal was, he was very genuine and kept eye contact with me and really listened to what I was saying and I told him it was the best Mexican food I have ever had and it’s true. He shared with me a little bit of his story and again was so humble in nature it truly caught me off guard. I have worked as a server, supervisor and a manager in restaurants and I’ve met some arrogant jerks throughout the years, but dining here I never saw a single staff member complain when customers entered ( if you’ve worked in a restaurant you know what I’m talking about) little did I know they had an entire other section of people they were serving, so they were pretty busy and again nobody broke a sweat! (Again unheard of if you’ve ever worked in a busy restaurant) from my observation they were like a well oiled machine ready for anything! I love this place and I will continue to support this business anytime I’m in Ashland. Thank you to all of the staff at this restaurant, you’re doing an amazing job, keep it up! One more thing! It looked to me like they had 1 gentleman doing all of the cooking and he didn’t lose his cool or anything he looked like he loved what he was doing, again such a nice thing to see in such...
Read moreIt's probably no coincidence that Taqueria La Monarca is not only the best Mexican food I've had in the Northland, but it's also the most authentic. Their menu features a comfortable combination of the classic dishes you would expect to find mixed with some traditional recipes I haven't been able to find elsewhere. We've tried new dishes each time we've dined, and so far everything has been fantastic. As flavorful as a home-cooked meal without all the grease typically found at a lot of other restaurants. Well presented, well prepared, and so delicious! The restaurant itself is warm and inviting in part due to the uniquely decorated monarch theme, but mostly because of the smiles and friendliness of the owner and staff. I'd highly recommend this...
Read moreWe were told by friends they would drive from Superior just to eat here, so we were in the area & planned weeks ago for this dinner. Food & service outstanding!! Awesome salsa (more tangy/limey/yummy then we're use to) & warm chips! Great prices. Hubby had Carne Asada (brought 1/2 home which is unusual for him as he usually finishes his & mine) & I had shredded beef chimichangas & brought 1/2 home too.Unfortunately, we spent all of our time swatting flys away. Both front & back doors were open (not sure why, as it was 91 degrees out) & felt like air conditioner was on in the rear dining area. We will go back, but im insisting in the winter months so we don't spend entire time...
