Restaurant Review: Los Compadres - A Taste of Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Ashtabula, Ohio
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
Nestled in the heart of Ashtabula, Ohio, Los Compadres is a delightful gem that brings the vibrant flavors of Mexico to our charming community. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with warm smiles and a colorful decor that instantly transports you to a festive atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Mexican cantina.
The menu at Los Compadres is a feast for the senses. They offer a diverse selection of dishes that cater to all tastes, from classic tacos and enchiladas to sizzling fajitas and hearty burritos. I decided to start with the guacamole and chips, and it certainly did not disappoint. The guac was fresh, creamy, and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of lime, garlic, and cilantro. Paired with warm, crispy tortilla chips, it was the ideal appetizer to kick off our meal.
For the main course, I opted for the Carnitas Tacos, while my dining companion chose the Chicken Mole. The tacos were generously filled with tender, flavorful pork that practically melted in my mouth, topped with fresh onions and cilantro. The accompanying salsa added just the right amount of heat. My friend’s Chicken Mole was a rich, aromatic dish, featuring a luscious chocolate-based sauce that paired beautifully with the tender chicken. It was evident that the chefs at Los Compadres put a lot of love and authenticity into their food.
One of the things I truly appreciated about Los Compadres was their extensive drink menu. The margaritas are a must-try—the perfect blend of tart and sweet, crafted with high-quality tequila. We enjoyed ours on the rocks, which complemented our meal beautifully.
The service at Los Compadres was impeccable. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations and checking in on us throughout our meal without being intrusive. The family-owned atmosphere adds a personal touch that makes diners feel like part of their community.
For dessert, we couldn't resist trying the Churros. Golden-brown and dusted with cinnamon sugar, they were served warm with a side of luscious chocolate sauce for dipping—an irresistible end to our meal.
In summary, Los Compadres is a fantastic addition to Ashtabula's dining scene, offering authentic Mexican cuisine that is both delicious and satisfying. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this restaurant should be on your must-visit list. Great food, welcoming service, and a lively atmosphere make for a perfect dining experience. Read moreI stopped in here today just to buy a crispy taco salad shell to throw my burrito bowl in that I got from Chipotle since compadres Express closed down in Geneva and I could no longer order a taco salad anymore with a crispy taco shell, so anyways I stopped in here to get the shell and decided to order two chili rellenos, one was cheese and one was ground meat, the reason for my three stars is because they weren't cooked the right way, you're suppose to stuff them with the filling and then dip them in a egg batter and fry them and these were not made the way they're supposed to be made, these were just plain Pablo peppers, cut open laying flat with the cheese on top for the cheese chili relleno and ground meat laying on the flat cut open pepper for the ground meat chili relleno, they were okay flavor-wise but they would have been so much better and got five stars from me if they would have been cooked the right way.... I will however be going back and trying out some other things I see on their menu that interest my taste buds lol... It was a really nice and clean place and the older lady that took my order at the cash register was very friendly and helpful and don't get me wrong the chili rellenos were tasty but they would have been so much better if cooked the right way, hopefully they read this review and if I ever order the chili rellenos again they will be cooked the way they're supposed to be and then they'll get a five...
Read moreHave visited Compadres several times over the last 5 years. Have enjoyed good Mexican food. Live in Ashtabula. IN the past year, something bad has happened to the quality of the food. The refried beans seemed to have been run through a blender. No beans in the serving, didn't look real. Like made from a box, tasted awful! I put chip dip in that mess to give it flavor. The steak strips ordered medium, were well done, the shrimps were cooked in the meat juice ruining the shrimp taste, the meat gravy was poured over every thing in the burrito, including the melted cheese with large cheese lumps. THE chopped lettuce looked and tasted as though it was chopped last week, not crisp. Tomatoes mushy. The meal was apparently prepared by an Amateur. I wrote this detailed report to show just how disappointed I was. I should have gone to Panda Buffet. I still tipped the waitress. I will tiptoe into the restaurant to ask questions before purchasing a meal....
