This has always been one of our favorite places for a quick bite. Last Tuesday, we were on a tight schedule, and it seemed a perfect choice. We didn't get seated right away; we, usually, are seated promptly or directed to choose. They were busy, but there were plenty of empty tables. Our Seater brought beverages, and said that the Server would be right with us. Much later, our Server took our orders. Quite a while later on, our sandwiches were delivered by the Seater (and we told him that our order was incomplete). We watched (and ate what he had delivered) as he proceeded to clean and set up tables, seated several groups, but made no attempt to finish delivering our order--nor did the "Server" who had taken our order. After an hour there, no one had come by to see if we wanted anything else, to check on us, or even to drop off the tab. It was, sadly, the worst service we've ever had there! 😒 After searching around for a "to go" box (as we were, now, very late for our appointment), I headed to the register area to pay. After even more delay, our "Server" came to process the payment. When I told her that we hadn't received part of our order, she took it off the bill (with no apology nor any thanks for our patronage). Other than the above, we've been very pleased with what the new owners have done--and seem to be continuing to do; the quality and cleanliness...
Read moreA-Town Diner (Virgil's) has a large variety of diner food, and home cooked style meals. I am yet to have anything bad there. Most of their meals are above my expectations, and only a couple have been at a standard diner level (still really tasty and not bad at all). They offer a large menu, so give yourself some time to look it over.
I have been there four to five dozen times over the years, and they never disappoint me. They are locally owned, and make amazing desserts as well. They have cobblers, fruit pies, cream pies, malts, shakes, and I'm sure I am forgetting a few other desserts. One of my favorite dinners is their fried chicken, as well as one of their two different pastrami sandwiches. They also offer GLUTEN-FREE bread if needed ($1-$2 extra).
The black and tan onion rings are pretty amazing, cheese sticks are pretty good, and they're homemade pico de gallo salsa is pretty good, too.
I sometimes wish they had later hours, but they are still amazing during the hours they are open from breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Be sure to call them ahead of time if you need to know their hours, because sometimes the hours posted on the Google businesses...
Read moreHad the privilege of meeting the self entitled owner's son. After our family ate their wonderful meal and was served by our delightful waitress, we came outside to discover our car that was parked in the shade for our pups was blocked by a black Subaru. The owner of the Subaru came out of the restraunt arrogantly announcing I had parked in his spot and he was the son of the owner (("my mom owns this place and you parked in my spot")) without sense to his voice of acknowledgement that members of the community are contributors to the restraunt's success and Donald Trump must be his father. One thing I am glad that came from the experience is that my 17 year old nephew was wise enough to be aware that "the guy came across as more of a jerk with his response." Sorry A-town as much as I like your food and service I do not like my money going to jerks. I truly hope other accommodations can be made for their customers that need to park in the shade that does not consist the back parking lot that smells of garbage and the homeless...
