1785 Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

I went to the bar with a group of friends this past weekend and the bouncer at the front door had the nerve to tell me that what I was wearing was not appropriate. His words were “ I don’t have a problem with it but the owner is lowkey racist and will kick females out if they are wearing something provocative.” He said this after the first bouncer already checked my id and gave me the good to go. He said he isn’t supposed to let me in but he did anyway after explaining that my skirt and see through shirt was inappropriate. Mind you, I had a tank top underneath my MESH top and I even had stockings under my skirt. Conservative but definitely bar night attire. I don’t know if this was me being racially profiled because he seemed to be a minority as well but I am just hung up over the fact that he opened his mouth to tell me why he shouldn’t let me enter the bar.. but let me in anyway? Me and my friends didn’t feel right giving the bar our money so we immediately left. We stood outside trying to figure out if we should confront the owner. I’ve been going to this bar for 3 years, and I’ve seen other females dressed in more revealing clothing than I was wearing. I won’t be coming here again. I am both hurt and surprised by this crazy encounter. As a female I should not being having a discussion with a man about what I am wearing if it does not concern him. I'd like to express my gratitude to the team at 1785 for their dedication to their roles. However, I must bring attention to a specific incident during my recent visit that requires addressing.

In this unfortunate situation, my sister was involved. It's important to note that she was not entirely blameless, as she was engaged in an argument with the security staff and displayed hostile behavior. Nevertheless, the response from the security personnel was excessively aggressive. The security guard physically intervened, which included pushing and shoving her, a response I found to be entirely unwarranted. Ultimately, this led her to experience a panic attack. This incident deeply unsettled our entire group and left us feeling unsafe.

While I do understand the challenges security personnel face when dealing with inebriated patrons, it remains crucial that all customers feel secure and respected throughout their time at 1785. Therefore, I urge the bar's management to provide more comprehensive training to their security staff, equipping them to handle such situations with increased sensitivity and professionalism.

Shockingly terrible service from the kitchen. Play poker there on Monday nights. Every time we order food it takes more than an hour to get our food and sadly it usually sucks. Bar staff is not bad but don’t order food, you’ll be disappointed and frankly as I sit here having ordered an hour and a half ago, I’m truly disgusted. Finally gave up and decided to leave just as my food finally came out. Didn’t bother to eat it. The best the manager could do was take our food off the bill when he should’ve actually taken care of our whole bill.
