This place blew past my expectations. Pause for effect.
Eastside is a little bit of a food desert. Theres a lot of outright bad restaurants just preying on a captive audience, some mid places that know theres not much competition, and a couple of good spots, but Preacher Greens might be the best food on this side of town. I have to go back more to see how the consistency and rest of the menu holds up but everything I had was prepared perfectly, tasted amazing, and was fairly priced. I had the salmon with two sides, and while i was a little taken aback at first at my meal coming out on a cafeteria tray, it was better than salmon I've paid twice as much for elsewhere. It had a crisp crust but was still perfectly cooked to what I'd call medium. I'm jealous of that crust because it's something i want to be able to do at home but don't quite get there.
It was really nice to get this quality of food without having to drive across town. It is counter order and normal strip mall restaurant inside, but you're also not paying for higher rent and more staff/ atmosphere. If I wanted to give two bits of constructive criticism I'd love for beers/ beverages on tap rather than cans but i understand that's harder to do, and the biscuit could be larger. I'm not saying the meal wasn't a good value or didn't fill me up, just that people are visual eaters too, and seeing that biscuit kinda made me chuckle.
I highly recommend giving Preacher...
Read moreI ordered from Preacher Greens for my family yesterday with zero expectations, and I was completely blown away.
First off, the service was fantastic. When I walked in to pick up my order, the young lady at the counter had everything ready, but instead of just handing me the bag, she actually went through it all with me, checking each item against the receipt to make sure everything was there. Such a nice touch! And then the chef called out a warm hello and thanked me for stopping by, which made the experience feel that much more personal.
Now, the food—so, so good. My family loved everything. The fried chicken was easily the standout—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. The collard greens were also delicious, full of that deep, rich flavor that makes you want to go back for seconds. Honestly, everything just hit the spot.
If you’re in East Athens, definitely give this place a try. The only small thing I’d tweak is the packaging—some smaller portions came in big plastic containers, which felt a little unnecessary. But that’s a minor thing and doesn’t take away from how great the food and...
Read moreI can’t get over the dinner prices—$20 for a veggie plate?! (raised by a dollar too within weeks of opening) Go to Maepole & get one—with a delicious sauce—for $10.49. The Place downtown for about the same—with table service. Makes me miss 5 star day cafe so much. Their veggie plate was $7 in 2010, so it’d be around $11 now with inflation—in line with the places above. The $20 veggie plate really bothers me because this is a teeny tiny space in a strip mall behind Taco Bell on the east side, and you order at the counter. One of the owners has a fine dining restaurant in the Atlanta area—the 4 veggie plate is $18 there 😂 As two other reviewers said, these are straight up Atlanta prices, and I can’t abide. You know this encourages other restaurants to raise their prices for no other reason as well? ETA: I’ll go to The National to pay 20+ for a (very creative & always delicious) veggie plate, the experience & service matches the price.
Food: mashed potatoes with white gravy and the succotash were good. Didn’t care for squash casserole. Mac and cheese was plastic-y and bland despite garlic breadcrumbs....
